Industry Groups and Designers Meet with EU Regulators to Discuss Eco Regulations Affecting Stage Lighting

BRUSSELS, Belgium – Representatives from theatrical industry organizations, lighting manufacturers and designers met with regulators with the European Union’s (EU) Energy & Culture departments on May 17 to discuss the proposed Eco Regulations for 2020, which could potentially limit the types of light fixtures available for stage lighting. PEARLE (Performing Arts Employers Associations League Europe), an organization based in Brussels with members in all EU states, joined with SOLT/UK Theatre, the trade associations PLASA, VLPT and OETHG, and the ALD, IALD and the Association of Swedish Lighting Designers to give voice to their concerns about the future of stage lighting.

Eurovision Song Contest’s Elaborate Lighting and Set Design Includes Claypaky, ADB Fixtures

LISBON, Portugal – The semi-finals and final competition for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest took place at Altice Arena in Lisbon, Portugal on May 8, 10 and 12. LD and director of photography Jerry Appelt’s massive visual setup included a full range of the latest lighting fixtures from Claypaky (with 750 fixtures) and ADB (100 fixtures). With some 2,000 fixtures in all, the lighting-video balance with this year’s extravaganza made a decided shift back toward the beams.
