 SINGAPORE – Lighting for the second Garden Beats Festival organized by Sunshine Nation and staged in the pastoral green environs of Fort Canning Park in Singapore … was designed by Craig Burridge. He included an interesting mix of Robe products on his plot including 24 x Linees, six ColorStrobes and six LEDBlinder 148 LTs, all of which contributed to a lively and colorful scheme for the one day event for which the lighting vendor was locally based CSP Productions Pte Ltd.

Liteup Supports alt-J Show at London’s O2 Arena

LONDON – Technical supplier and coordinator Liteup Events recently supported alt-J at their first arena show of 2017 at London’s The O2 Arena in mid-June. The show was part of the venue’s 10th year celebration as a leading destination for live music and events. The arena show helped kick off the band’s 2017 worldwide tour, which included a performance at Glastonbury’s Other Stage this year.

Very Much Alive with Phil Collins!

EUROPE – Singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, hit-maker and one of the world’s best-selling recording artists – Phil Collins – was on the road last month (June 2017) for his “Not Dead Yet” mini tour, named as per his autobiography published in October 2016. Collins’ long term lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe has created a stylish, animated lightshow, which is directed and operated on the road by Roland Greil, who also acted as the associate designer for the show – the two have collaborated on a number of projects in recent years including Adele last year, and on this one they worked closely with set and scenic designer, Misty Buckley.

Green Day Expresses Condolences After Aerialist’s Tragic Fall at Madrid Festival

MADRID – On July 7 at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, acrobat Pedro Aunion Monroy, 42, who had been performing in front of a crowd of 35,000 attendees, died after falling nearly 100 feet. As investigators tried to pinpoint the cause, festival organizers and Green Day were criticized for continuing with their show despite the tragedy. In a statement, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong expressed condolences and made it clear that, had the band been aware of the accident, they would have opted against performing. Festival organizers, meanwhile, pointed to “security issues” as the rationale for not cutting the concert performances short. They also expressed condolences.

ADJ Fixtures Illuminate Stage For Dutch Liberation Celebration

NETHERLANDS – On 5th May 1945 the Netherlands was liberated from the Nazis. Initially the date was marked every five years with a celebration of liberation, but in 1990 May 5th was designated an annual national holiday in the Netherlands. The day is now commemorated by celebrations across the country, including music festivals held in one of the major cities of each of the Netherland’s 12 provinces. In Limburg, the festival is hosted in the city of Roermond and ADJ lighting was used to provide eye candy effects and illumination for one of the principle stages.

The Brolga Theatre goes multi-Platinum with Elation

AUSTRALIA – The Brolga Theatre in Queensland’s Maryborough is a typical regional venue – its 900 seat proscenium arch theatre hosts an international ballet troupe one night, Jimmy Barnes the next, and a local dance school the day after. Though the venue is just 17 years old, changes in technology mean replacement lamps are no longer available for their wash lights, leading the staff to assess how to upgrade for the future. The future, as they see it, is Elation’s Platinum Seven RGBWAC-UV LED wash.

Linkin Park Tours with New Flare Q+ Fixtures

Seventy-four Solaris Flare Q+ fixtures play a key role in her design.

Depeche Mode’s Global Spirit Tour Gets Industrial Edge from VL6000 Beams

PARIS – Philips’ Vari-Lite VL6000 Beam luminaires are playing a central role in the lighting design for Depeche Mode’s Global Spirit tour. Lighting design for the tour is by Sooner Routhier and Robert Long of US-based SRae Productions. Associate lighting designer Brian Jenkins programmed the show for SRae, while lighting director Manny Conde is responsible for the lighting on the tour. The lighting equipment is being supplied by UK-based production rental specialist HSL Group.
