LONDON – Lighting designer Nathan Alves has a penchant for invention and thinking out of the box, so he has enjoyed the challenge of developing the lighting scheme for the new John Mayer “Search for Everything” world tour which just finished its UK and European leg. The set / production design created by Sam Pattinson of Treatment Studio has a strong cinematic feel and is heavily video-orientated.

2017 Porin Music Awards

CROATIA – The Spaladium Arena in the stunning Croatian coastal town of Split was the venue for the 2017 Porin Music Awards (AKA ‘the Porins’), a glamourous, high profile evening which honors the achievements and talent of Croatian artists across a diverse mix of genres and 30 categories and is broadcast live on the national HRT network. Lighting designer for this year was HRT’s Marko Foretić who chose to work with a moving light rig of over 160 Robe fixtures, supplied by one of the leading Croatian rental companies, Promologistika. He worked closely with Promologistika’s Miro Hrg who designed the set and video elements.

Google Cloud Event at London’s ExCeL Lit with White Light Support

LONDON – Google Cloud NEXT took place May 3-4 at the ExCeL Centre in East London. The event’s production team from Wonder London turned to White Light for a lighting assist. White Light provided more than 150 moving lights (VL3500 Spots, Martin MAC Auras and Robe Robin 1200s) and more than 300 ETC Source Fours and Fresnels, along with 130 LED fixtures (including Chroma-Q Color Forces). Alongside this were more than 200 hoists and over 1100m of Prolyte truss.

Slick Urban Look for 2017 Schlagerfestival

HASSELT, Belgium – The 2017 Schlagerfestival, produced by PSE Belgium and Medialaanwhich, included five sold-out shows at 21,000-capacity Ethias Arena in Hasselt, Belgium from March 24-April 1. Painting with Light’s served as production designer, Paco Mispelters was lighting director and Michael Al Far handled the playback video elements along with content designer Sina Sohn. All combined their ideas to present show director Luc Koenen with some big, bright and epic looking settings to deliver a three hour performance featuring 42 different schlager artists.

Denmark-Based Vocalist Burhan G Tours with Robe Fixtures

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Denmark-based R&B and pop singer Burhan G is on the road with a brand new set and lighting design by Theis Wemuth of Aarhus based creative visual practice, Create This, with Robe Spiiders, BMFLs and Pointes right at the core of the aesthetic. Theis started his lighting design career 12 years ago and is well known in Denmark for his imagination and thinking ‘out-of-the-box’. He was asked by the artist to produce a design for the tour which promotes his latest album Pas på pigerne (Beware of Girls) which features a big band sound and style bringing a new dimension to his diverse repertoire.

Sigma Performs at the Royal Albert Hall with HSL Assist

LONDON – U.K.-based duo Sigma recently became the first drum and bass act – complete with full band – to play London’s Royal Albert Hall. Creating visuals for this ground-breaking gig in the distinguished venue was show designer Andy Hurst. He used a combination of lighting equipment supplied by Blackburn rental company HSL and the in-house rig, and worked alongside a crew of three from HSL.
