Dream Theater Tours Europe with Solaris Flares

HELSINKI, Finland – Dream Theater is once again bringing their progressive metal sound to Europe.  The first leg of their Images, Words & Beyond tour closes in Helsinki this month.  They will resume in April in the UK and close in Vienna in May.  Keeping pace with the fiery brilliance of the band’s veteran metal shredders are eight blazing Solaris Flares. Lite Alternative is the lighting supplier for the European segment.  Later this year Dream Theater will be touring in Asia and America.

Big Convention in South Africa Lit with Claypaky Fixtures

JOHANNESBURG – MGG provided full technical production support for the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Annual Convention, which celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Sandton Convention Centre’s Pavilion Venue in Johannesburg. MGG supported the designs from lighting designer Francois van der Merwe from Wizardry Group for both the conference and banquet styled show, providing Clay Paky Mythos, Sharpys and other fixtures.

Opeth’s Big Shows at Wembley Arena, Other Venues Lit with Claypaky Fixtures

LONDON — Stockholm-based heavy metal band Opeth has been rocking some pretty big venues with specially designed shows for NYC (Radio City Music Hall, Oct. 1, 2016), London (Wembley Arena, Nov. 19, 2016) and the Sydney Opera House (Feb. 6, 2017). Although these shows were part of their world tour in support of their Sept. 30, 2016 album release, Sorceress, they featured extended sets with songs from previous albums as well, and doubled the light rig.  LD Magnus Boyd turned to Siyan Limited for an assist with the Wembley gig, deploying extra Claypaky fixtures, new Aryrton units and grandMA2 consoles for control, all of which were sourced in the U.K. via Ambersphere Solutions.

Claypaky Spheriscan Delivers Ethereal Lighting Effects at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – Claypaky Spheriscans were selected to deliver a display of spectacular lighting effects that merged architectural and entertainment lighting during Edinburgh’s famous Hogmanay torchlight procession. The award-winning fixtures were supplied and installed on The National Monument of Scotland at Calton Hill by Edinburgh-based production and rental outfit Black Light. Project manager James Gow from Black Light worked alongside lighting designer Grant Anderson and production manager of the torchlight procession John Robb, to create a lighting plan that offered maximum impact and versatility for the event.

SINGAPORE – Over 400 Robe moving lights boosted the magic and spectacle of the 45th Singapore Chingay Parade to celebrate Chinese New Year – The Year of the Rooster. Javier Tan’s colorful high-impact lighting design matched the glamour, glitz and exuberance of the high profile public event, featuring an ebullient cast of 8000, creatively directed by Fan Dong Kai and staged at the F1 Pit Building in the city center. The glittering show was organized by the People’s Association (PA).
