MAASTRICHT, The Netherlands – Nearly 100 Claypaky Sharpys were used for an eight-hour light show to 2,000 partygoers at an underground club hosted by Dutch techno music agency Claydrum at Complex nightclub, Maastricht for New Year’s Eve. Dutch production designer Joël Lemmerling, from Maastricht-based production company, Stöd, selected 96 of the multi-award winning Sharpy fixtures to create a fastidious design formulated by gridded white, colored and UV light beams and clever manipulation of angles.

ABU DHABI, UAE — The 2017 International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) took place in Abu Dhabi Feb. 19-23, including an elaborate combination of musical and military spectacles with a performance stage measuring 250 by 60 meters used for a dramatic portrayal of live combat. SYDNEY — TMB, distributor of Firefly FloppyFlex LED neon products, noted that 285 meters of the product was incorporated into Woodroffe Bassett Design’s looks for Adele on her current tour of New Zealand and Australia. Tait supplied the product for the tour leg, an extension of Adele’s Live 2016 trek (now called Adele Live 2017), which began Feb. 28 and runs through March 26. The tour also includes confetti effects from Quantum SFX.

BRISTOL, U.K. — Hundreds of aspiring young engineers and roboticists took part in a science and technology challenge at the University of the West of England in Bristol. The finals of the First Lego League Challenge: Animal Allies were held in the university’s Exhibition and Conference Centre on Feb. 26. Evans Audio Visual Staging teamed up with Utopium to supply sound and lighting to the event, which was part of a global Lego-based robotics contest, and featured tens of thousands of young people.
