TARTU, ESTONIA – Vanemuine Theatre in Estonia’s cultural hub of Tartu has premiered the country’s first version of the classic ABBA jukebox musical “Mamma Mia” staged in Vanemuine’s Big House auditorium, directed by Ain Mäeots with lighting designed by Meelis Lusmägi. The LD took advantage of Vanemuine’s house rig which includes Robe moving lights, weaving MMX Spots, 600E Spots,  LEDWash 1200s and  LEDWash 600s into his scheme for the lively and colorful show set on the Greek island of Kalokairi on the eve of Sophie’s wedding to Sky.

Opeth Sorceress tours with Ayrton DreamPanel™-Twin

EUROPE – Kicking off with twenty dates in America at the start their Sorceress world tour, Swedish band Opeth brought their show to Europe in November, opting for a single show at Wembley Arena for their UK audience.  Magnus Boyd has been lighting the band for the last eighteen months: “During the tour, we have done two special extended sets at Radio City and Belasco in LA, featuring songs from the Deliverance and Damnation albums before performing a third at Wembley Arena,” he says.

Robe Visits the Palace

LONDON – Palace are a much anticipated four piece indie blues rock band from London about which there’s lots of anticipation and excitement and an acclaimed debut EP, “Lost in the Night”. Lighting designer Steve Bewley – well known for this work with Enter Shikari, London Grammar, Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah and a string of other interesting alt artists –- was asked to light a recent showcase gig at the Electric in Brixton, London, for which he chose to use an all-Robe floor package which was supplied by Dragonfly Lighting.

Prolight + Sound 2017: Winners of Opus – German Stage Award Announced

FRANKFURT – Two projects have been chosen for this year’s Opus – German Stage Award. An Opus in the stage and lighting design category honours the ‘Get Loud Open Air Tour 2016’ by Rea Garvey. Additionally, an award is to be given in the Technical Realisation category for Ulrich Rasche’s production of Schiller’s ‘The Robbers’ at the ‘Residenztheater’ in Munich. Opus is one of the foremost awards in the field of theatre and stage production and will be presented during Prolight + Sound, International Fair of Technologies and Services for Entertainment, Integrated Systems and Creation, in Frankfurt from 4 to 7 April 2017.

BLACKPOOL, UK – Lighting designer Andy Webb seized a recent pantomime production of “Aladdin” staged at the Grand Theatre in Blackpool, UK as the opportunity to design an all-LED moving and specials lighting rig which was all Robe. Andy had been working on an LED lighting concept for the last two pantomime seasons … with an increasing percentage of the rig becoming LED, and this year he felt the time was right to make a complete switch to LED moving lights and specials.

Robe for Ras Al Khaimah National Day Celebrations

UAE – Nearly 200 Robe fixtures were used by award-winning lighting and show designer Terry Miranda of Lighthouse Productions to light a special production of musical “Fakhrak Ya Watan” (The Pride of a Nation) for the 2016 Ras al-Khaimah National Day Celebrations on the eve of the United Arab Emirates 2016 National Day event. Ras al-Khaimah (RAK) is one of the seven Emirates making up the UAE.

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 Relies on Avolites Integrated Control System

VALETTA, Malta — The Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC), the youth version of the international televised music competition, took place at the end of 2016. LD Anton Borg Olivier designing a fully networked Avolites control and dimming system to power broadcast-ready stage and green room lighting. Hosted by Malta in the capital city of Valetta, JESC ‘16 reported a total live average audience of 3.9 million viewers across 14 markets; the biggest audience for four years.
