BERLIN — Teams from three different European offices of Area Four industries recently joined forces to work on a memorable project for Lollapalooza Music Festival in Berlin on Sept. 10-11 this year. An extremely challenging deadline was presented to A4i UK to design and build a custom, high-capacity roof system for the Perry Stage at the music festival via their London based client Colour Sound Experiment.

Australian School Theatre Creates Bigger Presence with Chauvet Professional Gear

SYDNEY – Ravenswood School for Girls has brought a new level of production to its performing arts theatre by adding a collection of Chauvet Professional fixtures to its rig for two recent shows: Grease The Musical and Ravenswood Presents. Supplied by Showtools International, the Ovation C-640FC, Rogue R1 Spot and Rogue R2 Wash were instrumental in creating powerful looks for both performances. These fixtures worked in tandem with Chauvet Professional products that were already on the school’s permanent rig, including the Legend 412Z, COLORdash Batten-Quad 6 and COLORdash Batten-Hex 8

‘Morning Blossoms’ Tours the Netherlands, Lit with Robe Fixtures

ZWOLLE, The Netherlands – For Morning Blossoms, a musical that combines the disciplines of opera, ballet, dance, music and drama, LD Yaron Abulafia is using a variety of Robe fixtures, including DL7S Profiles, DL7F Washes, DL4S Profiles, BMFL Blades and BMFL Wash XFs, Robe Strobes and Spikies. The production, produced by ODD Continent, premiered Oct. 11 and 12 in Zwolle and tours the Netherlands through Nov. 23.

LED Saves Power for White Rock Theatre

HASTING, UK – An LED lighting installation – specified and undertaken by Penn Elcom – is saving the White Rock Theatre in Hastings approximately 75 per cent on electricity requirements, plus a further 70 per cent on maintenance costs per year compared to the previous lighting scheme. The seafront located theatre, a historically significant cultural landmark in the East Sussex region with origins dating back to 1927, is a busy receiving house owned by Hastings Borough Council with the day to day running and management undertaken by HQ Theatres & Hospitality.

Molkom Folkhogskola Chooses Robe

SWEDEN – Molkom is a small, picturesque town near to Karlstad in Värmland beside a large lake and the Folkhogskola (Folk High School) there offers courses in acting, and film. In 2012 a new 140 capacity multipurpose venue was built specifically for the use of the acting and film courses, which includes  classes in the technology involved in the industries. When stage manager Rune Sorgard arrived in 2015 he identified the need for some moving lights in the theatre and in early 2016 a package of Robes arrived in the form of 10 x LEDWash 300s, six DL4S and four PARfect 100s.

U.K. Pharmaceutical Event Welcomes Attendees with Architectural Lighting Design by CPL

ENSTONE, Oxfordshire, U.K. — CPL (Central Presentations Limited) designed and installed the architectural lighting scheme for a pharmaceutical company’s corporate event held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Heythrop Park Resort in Oxfordshire, U.K. CPL worked with a Belgian production company that was spearheading the project, which involved the use of wireless LED fixtures and moving lights with custom gobos in weather-domes.

U.K.’s Illusive Festival Features Giant Robot with DJ Booth, Chauvet Rogues

CORBY, UK – The Illusive Festival, held in the rolling fields outside the Northamptonshire town of Corby in September, featured a main stage design by Simon Wallwork with visuals that included a giant, gyrating robot with a DJ booth in its belly. Over each shoulder of the robot and along its sides was an asymmetrically arranged collection of Rogue R1 FX-B fixtures from Chauvet Professional. Lighting designers Toby Lovegrove and Doug Alan Coppell used the Rogues to shoot rapidly moving and rotating beams of brightly colored light.

Illusionist Hans Klok’s ‘House of Horror’ Tour Includes Visual Assist from Painting with Light

AMSTERDAM – Belgium-based show design practice Painting with Light has created innovative and highly effective lighting and video content for the current tour by Hans Klok, the world’s Fastest Illusionist, who is presenting his grisly ‘House of Horror’ show. The spectacle, produced by Stardust Circus International, which combines the drama and theatrical gruesomeness of Gothic horror with quick witted and fantastic illusion art, was launched at the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where it enjoyed a successful seven-week run before going on the road.

InventDesign LEDs Brighten Amsterdam Music Festival

AMSTERDAM — The LED specialists at InventDesign built a grid of digital LED profiles with a total length of more than 1,500 meters for the Amsterdam Music Festival, a key part of the five-day Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) held in the Dutch capital in mid-October since 1996. ADE now draws more than 2,200 DJs and electronic music-makes over a five-day span, with close to 450 events staged at 115 clubs and venues.
