CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Since just before Christmas 2015, The Bank nightclub has been operating three days a week out of the art deco QV54 (54 Queen Victoria Street) building in downtown Cape Town. The lounge style environment – with comfortable, sociable seating areas and strategically placed dancing surfaces rather than a central dancefloor – is attracting crowds with a mix of hip hop Caribbean, Miami and deep house. Lighting and effects are provided by a combination of Robe MiniMes and miniPointe fixtures.

MEXICO CITY – The 489-foot-high tower that’s part of the Paragon Business & Residential Suites in Mexico City’s Santa Fe district is adding a new dose of color to the Mexico City skyline with an architectural lighting project completed by Hermes Music México. The design called for LED color washes from one of their principal suppliers, PR Lighting. Hermes Music Mexico lighting specialist Ricardo R Segura de la Cruz made use of four of PR Lighting’s Arc Led 3216 fixtures to light the top of the building and XPar 390 fixtures to light the base.

DUBAI, UAE –  On April 1, the day before the UN-designated World Autism Awareness Day (April 2), Protec LD Aaron Russ lit Flo Rida and Tyga on a temporary stage dubbed the “Autism Rocks Arena.” Kicking off Autism Awareness Month, Austism Rocks awareness-and-fundraising concerts were launched by British born businessman and philanthropist Sanjay Shah, whose young son, Nikhil, was diagnosed with autism in 2011. Since Autism Rocks concerts began, performers have included Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone, Drake and Prince.

MANCHESTER, U.K.  – Singer songwriter Hozier toured the U.K. earlier this year in support of his self-titled debut album, released in mid-February. LD Matthew Kilmurry included Clay Paky Mythos fixtures in a carefully crafted lighting design, noting that the fixture played “one of the most versatile roles in the show.” Adlib Audio provided the gear.

FRANKFURT, Germany – Prolight + Sound’s organizers noted that the 2016 event, held April 5-8, welcomed 940 exhibitors from 47 countries. The event’s organizers also noted that the  visitor count also set a record in 2016, with close to 45,000 visitors from 121 countries attending.

DUBLIN – Irish rental and production specialist Just Lite delivered full technical production, including lighting equipment and design, for BAMMA 24 working for production manager Sven Knight and his team from KRS. The mixed martial arts tournament was staged in 3 Arena, Dublin, and broadcast live on Spike (UK) Channel 5 in the UK and Ireland, ESPN 3 in the US plus numerous others worldwide as well as streamed live via main sponsor Lonsdale’s Facebook.

LINGEN, Germany – Andreas Bourani is currently out on an arena tour of his native Germany in support of his latest album, Hey, with a lighting design by Nik Evers. The setup includes Clay Paky Mythos and A.leda B-EYE K20 fixtures. Evers, who also designed the staging and video content alongside Timo Marten and Philip Hillers, specified the hybrid Mythos and the LED wash and effects light B-EYE from Black Box Music.

ABU DHABI, UAE – The United Arab Emirates celebrated the 44th UAE National Day on Dec. 2, 2015 with fireworks, concerts, heritage attractions, regattas, and art and theater festivals across the country. In Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City, the official National Day show made use of A.C.T Lighting distributed brands including Clay Paky and Robert Juliat lighting fixtures, MDG atmospheric generators and grandMA2 consoles. The show was produced by Five Current with lighting and video design by 4U2C.

FRANKFURT, Germany – At Prolight + Sound earlier this month, MDG’s new stand featured atmosphere generation products that included demos for the company’s new Atmosphere range, the Me Family, the IceFog Series of low-fog generators and their award-winning product, theOne. The booth also featured videos showing how to unleash the full potential of some of the larger generators that the environs of a trade show were not able to accommodate. The highlight of the show was the intro for the company’s “8-nozzled monster,” the Me8.

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia —Ljubljana Castle, a tourist attraction in the Slovenian capital, also draws crowds with multiple venues that are used for a variety of conferences, meetings, presentations and theatre and music productions. These are now equipped with Robe fixtures, including CycFX 8s, LEDBeam 100s and six Robe LightWare HO battery powered up-lighting LED units.

LONDON – All or Nothing, a musical that opened recently at The Vaults in London, is based on the life and music of British Mod group The Small Faces. White Light provided a lighting rig that includes 52 Par 64s and two ETC Source Four Revolutions specified by LD Peter Small. Small also used Look Solutions Unique 2.1 Haze Machine, CCT Minuette Fresnels and ETC Source Fours for the show. White Light supplied the gear.

MURMANSK REGION, Russia –– MuzTrade, an authorized distributor of Harman’s Martin lighting products in the Murmansk region, an area that borders Finland and Norway north of the Arctic Circle, provided Martin lighting fixtures for an event held 1,000 feet beneath the ground. Marking Russian Miners’ Day, the celebration also heralded the launch of Main Shaft No. 2 in the Kirovsk mine. MuzTrade turned to Martin’s MAC 101, MAC 700 Profile and MAC Aura fixtures to meet the unique needs of this event.
