DUSSELDORF, Germany – For Believe, a new Holiday on Ice show with a storyline based on William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Romeo and Juliet (but with a more cheerful ending), Belgian design practice Painting with Light created the set, lighting and video designs. Painting with Light’s Luc Peumans imagined the set and worked alongside his team including Paco Mispelters, who created the lighting, and Michael Al-Far, who designed the video.

MALMO, Sweden – For the new-build Malmö Live venue, ETC’s Danish dealer Atendi (previously known as Bico Professionel) supplied a full ETC Sensor3 power-control system with triple-function dim/relay/constant current ThruPower modules. They also supplied 100 ETC Selador Desire D40 Studio Tungsten LED luminaires, to be installed in place of the halogen lights with dimmers that were originally specified.

DOHA, Qatar – Lighting designer Massimo Tomasino used Clay Paky fixtures including 26 Alpha Spot HPE 700s and 26  Alpha Wash 700s for the Secrets of the Sea musical production accompanying the 2015 Qatar Marine Festival in Doha.

TORUN, Poland – The new Jordanki Culture and Congress Center (CKK Jordanki) houses an 880-seat concert hall and a 300-seat chamber hall. To light those spaces, Philips distributor PS TEATR supplied 144 Philips Vari-Lite moving heads, including the company’s new VL4000 Spots; 32 Philips Selecon PL3 luminaires; eight PLcyc2 luminaires; and three Philips Showline SL NITRO 510 strobes.

DURBAN, South Africa – For Aquafest, a day-long surfside celebration, LD Shaniel Laloo added extra visual impact to the beat of the music with Strike 4 fixtures from from Chauvet Professional, sourced via importer Audiosure.

LONDON – Organizers for the Knight of Illumination Awards (KOI), to be held Sept. 18 at Kensington Olympia in London, note that preparations for the ninth annual ceremony are already well underway, with submissions coming in for the Television and Concert Touring and Events categories.

DURBAN, South Africa – Sound Stylists opened their Durban branch in 2010 to service the growing events, music and entertainment markets in the KwaZulu Natal port city, and it’s expanded from a satellite operation for the Johannesburg HQ with two staff to a major branch with 11 full time employees, working across all industry sectors. BRISTOL, UK – CPL provided lighting and video equipment for the TEDxBristol event, UK, one of the ongoing series of locally organized TEDx (Technology, Entertainment Design) global conferences underpinned by the not-for-profit Sapling Foundation. The “ideas worth spreading” program has an emphasis on technology, design and various other scientific, cultural and academic topics, and is designed to inspire and encourage action and initiative.

AMSTERDAM – Elation Professional will be showing its latest LED and Platinum Series fixtures Feb. 9-12 at the ISE show including the Platinum HFX, which is making its European debut. The HFX is a new mid-sized addition to Elation’s hybrid family of beam, spot and wash luminaires.

HAMBURG, Germany – A new feature at the Miniatur Wunderland attraction is a replica of German performer Helene Fischer’s sold-out concert at the Berlin Olympiastadion in July 2015. The concert, replicated in painstaking detail, includes the lighting rig used for her show, including a tiny version of an array of Clay Paky Mythos and Sharpy Wash 330 fixtures.

SERIATE, Italy – LD Ken Billington held a workshop on show lighting, called Lights-Up, on Dec. 4, 2015 in Clay Paky’s recently opened corporate showroom.  Attendees included lighting designers, lighting directors and other industry professionals.
