BERLIN, Germany – For German rockers In Extremo, LD Stephan “Faren” Matern turned to a range of fixtures far newer than the musical instruments the band members typically play on tour. On the band’s recent Kunstraub tour, Alpha Spot QWO 800 STs and Clay Paky Sharpy Beams lit performers using the 12^th century shawm (a woodwind instrument), the Renaissance-era cittern, the hammered dulcimer and other vintage instruments.

UTRECHT, The Netherlands – Light Image, a lighting design firm based here, has been working increasingly with Robe products. The company includes three core people (pictured here L-R): Renzo Hagel (LD / operator) Jeroen Van Der Velden (media servers / technical drawing specialist) and Bas van der Poel (LD). They have been using Robe products on many of their recent shows.

FREDERICIA, Denmark — At Fredericia Sportscenter here, Elation’s ELAR EXTQW Flood HP LED Par fixture is being used to color wash the facility’s 50-meter-long swimming pool. The colors range from everyday white light to colorful dynamic mood lighting. Twenty-four of the IP65-rated fixtures work from beneath the water line behind small windows on the sides of the pool.

MOSCOW — For Tiens Company’s annual distributor conference at Moscow’s Russia Hall in SC “luzhniki,” featuring a combination of official speeches and an original concert program for 8,000 guests, Harman’s Martin Professional provided LD Roman Kasaev with a M6 console to control a design with over 100 Martin lighting fixtures.

SYDNEY – Hoping to avoid obscuring the hand-carved ceiling of the Burton St. Tabernacle, Jands Staging installed a see-through grid. They recommended a product called Cablenet; a tension wire grid platform that Jands used to create a see-through ‘virtual ceiling’. Installed above the audience’s head, Cablenet carries the load of both lighting and technicians with complete safety, all without compromising the LD’s vision or the audience’s enjoyment of the heritage ceiling. 

JOHANNESBURG – LD Magz Schoeman used Robe moving lights at the core of the rig for Canadian singer Tamia’s two shows staged at the Carnival City Big Top Arena here. Schoeman used six new Pointes, eight LEDBeam 100s, eight LEDWash 300s, four LEDWash 600s and six MMX Spots – all from Robe’s ROBIN range – for a variety of looks that flowed from a blend of genres ranging from R&B to pop, hip hop, soul, gospel and jazz.

LONDON – LD Malcolm Reed included Clay Paky Sharpys, Nexus 4x4s, Jarag-L’s and the A.leda B-EYE K20 in the design for Soccer AM, a British Saturday-morning soccer-based comedy/talk show that airs on the Sky Sports 2 network. In addition to the weekly TV show, Soccer AM also hosted a live event with performances from legends Soul II Soul and rapper Tinchy Stryder.

BRISTOL, U.K. – Utopium, a lighting production and installation company based here and London, recently invested in a range of SGM fixtures including the P-5 (LED wash light) and X-5 (LED strobe). The new inventory was soon deployed on a major series of open air concerts for the Bristol Summer Series for Metropolis Music, pictured here.

ROMANIA – Seeking the most sustainable technology to support the Bergenbier Friendship Tour, production company FIVE’S chose SGM lighting including six SGM G-Spot moving heads, four P-5 wash lights, 12 X-5 white LED strobes and 12 SixPack blinders. “Our choice is based on the advantages of a longer fixture lifetime and less maintenance, brighter colors and low energy consumption,” said Andrei Popea.

TV production company Ultima Studios is responsible for producing it’s own original content including two reality shows, MTN Project Fame West Africa and a franchise of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
