AMSTERDAM – Inspired by the architecture of Paris’ Eiffel Tower, show designer Mark Rietveld sought to build a giant industrial DJ set for the Qapital dance event. Rietveld used 68 x Clay Paky Sharpys to create fierce light architecture that mirrored the show’s giant structural set. “The brief for the lighting design was to accentuate the structure and give it as many dimensions as possible,” explains Rietveld. “The Sharpys had a specific role in the design, they were there to extend the wings of the stage in the ceiling and to add some punch and power to the center of the set, shooting light down into the crowds.”

BELGIUM – For the live finals of the Voice van Vlaanderen (The Voice of Flanders), Show Designer Ignace D’Haese’s lihting rig incorporated 30 x Pointes, 21 x LEDWash 1200s, 22 x LEDWash 800s, 12 x LEDWash 600s and 15 x LEDWash 300s from Robe. The design was based on giving the show an epic ‘live arena’ aesthetic while also being flexible and adaptable to deal with the myriad of different musical genres performed throughout the 10 weeks. While the show naturally had to look great on TV, it also had to look spectacular for the 3000 Voice fans who packed into the stadium each week to cheer on their favorites.

CZECH REPUBLIC/SLOVAK REPUBLIC – For the final of the Czech and Slovak edition of the X-Factor, LDs Michal Schmidt and Tomáš Lecký used 56 x Robe ROBIN Pointes, 22 x ColorSpot 700E ATs and 20 x ColorSpot 1200E ATs. “The Pointe is absolutely the TOP moving light product at the moment – I could not conceive of doing a high profile music show like this without them,” Schmidt said.

UTRECHT, The Netherlands – After seven years of using Hippotizer on some of Europe’s most high-profile productions, Tenfeet, based here, opted to upgrade from first generation Hippotizer HDs for the latest-spec i7 machines. LISBON, Portugal – PRG provided lighting and rigging services for the Ford Mustang Experience at the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final here. Imagination LD Lucy Record sought to bring to life an interactive wall – an impressive 4m high and 9m wide curved structure featuring 36 x Martin by Harman AF-2 Fans, with each fan backed by an LED fixture. 

ZHUHAI, China – Harman’s Martin M6 Console was chosen to control and calibrate the lighting systems of the Changlong International Circus Festival. The setup for the festival features two M6 consoles of the 64 channel version, as well as eight Ether2DMX8 DMX routers.

SOUTH KIRKBY, Yorkshire, U.K) – Tinie Tempah’s 11-date UK and Ireland Temptation arena tour this spring was backed by LS-Live designer Gaz Mallon, who worked with show designer Anthony Randall and production manager Phil Broad, providing a raised V” Shape stage, Prolyte S52 truss and LiteDeck components.

MADRID, Spain — For A Marte Cabaret (A Mars Cabaret), a cabaret-styled production with a space age twist, LD Felipe Ramos’ lighting rig is centered on 12 Robe Pointe fixtures at its core, provided by ASL Light Solutions. Working with set designer Sánchez Cuerda, whose design includes a large female robot, Ramos also designed the show’s video elements which include both LED screens and projection.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Tiësto recently headlined the EDM Copenhagen electronic festival presented by Arive on the terrace of the Stay Apartment Hotel here May 31. Production manager/show designer Christian Byriel worked with LD Christian Vigsø on the project, and they included SGM’s G-Spot to light the headliner.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Clay Paky reports that TV lighting designer Kasper Lange was impressed by the power of the company’s fixtures, which were included within the big rig lighting the 2014 semi-finals and finals, staged at B&W Halls here May 6, 8 and 10.

LONDON — LD Patrick Dierson specified new Showline SL NITRO 510C strobe luminaires as part of his design for Tinie Tempah’s Demonstration tour in the U.K. The Tinie Tempah tour has now completed its UK leg and will be visiting festivals across Europe during the summer.
