LDs Woodroffe and Griel Light Romeo and Juliet Rock Ballet with Clay Paky Fixtures

HAMBURG, Germany — Rasta Thomas and Adrienne Canterna, the husband-and-wife team behind the Bad Boys of Dance company (BBD) and its Rock the Ballet productions, are taking a new rock ballet, and update on William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, on the road in Germany. LDs Patrick Woodroffe and Roland Griel included 16 Clay Paky Sharpy Wash fixtures in the production’s lighting design. Showconcept supplied the gear.

Venerable U.K. Theatre Invests in Philips Selecon LED Technology

WINCHESTER, U.K. — Peter Vincent, lighting manager at the 75-seat Chesil Theatre, chose three PLprofile1s, five PLfresnel1s and five PLcyc1s for their energy efficiency, color changing abilities and ease of use. He based his decision on a shootout with the theatre’s existing tungsten rig. The theatre, in a building that dates to Medieval times, is home of the 150-year-old Winchester Dramatic Society.

More than 80 Hurt, Four Seriously in Apollo Theatre Ceiling Collapse

LONDON — More than 80 people were hurt, four seriously, in a ceiling collapse at the Apollo Theatre here on Dec. 19. The 775-capacity theatre, which first opened in 1901, was nearly full when the ceiling fell a little after 8 p.m., according to reports. The staged production, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, had been underway for about 40 minutes when it was halted amid the fallen debris and dust.
