“Wild Oats” at U.K.’s Minack Theatre Lit with White Light Gear

PENZANCE, U.K. — For the Shattered Windscreen Theatre Company’s production of Wild Oats at the outdoor, seaside, carved-from-the-granite Minack Theatre here in August 2013, White Light provided lighting equipment to the specifications of LD Ken Allford. The gear, which complemented the Minack Theatre’s own stock of fixtures, included a range of ETC Source Four profiles, Philips Selecon Acclaim fresnels, Robert Juliat followspots and PAR fixtures.

Creamfields 2013 Supported by LarMac Live, Others

LONDON — LarMac Live, based here, provided production support for the Creamfields UK dance festival in Daresbury, Cheshire, U.K. for the fourth consecutive year. Ian “Lar” Greenway worked with Cream and Live Nation as production manager with an assist from Matt Smith and Siobhan Shaw. The long roster of production companies supporting the two outdoor arenas and nine tented areas also included Colour Sound Experiment, XL Video and Adlib.

DERRY-LONDONDERRY, Northern Ireland — Having seen the benefits to Liverpool after it was designated a European City of Culture by the European Union in 2008, the United Kingdom launched a similar program for cities in the U.K. The first city designated for the one-year honor is the Northern Ireland city known as both Derry and Londonderry. To support the celebrations of that designation, for the year 2013, Manchester, U.K.-based dbn Lighting provided Clay Paky fixtures.

DMX Productions Provides Robe Gear for Nepathya Concert at Wembley Arena

LONDON — DMX Productions provided a lighting rig for a concert featuring folk/rock band Nepathya at Wembley Arena here that included Robe Pointe moving lights along with LEDWash 600s and MMX Spot fixtures. Tom Grant, working on behalf of rental company Siyan Ltd., oversaw the lighting and video design. SJ Grevett of DMX Productions managed the show’s production.

U.K. Rigging Conference to Include Structures

LONDON — The fourth annual PLASA Rigging Conference, set for Oct. 7-8 at ExCeL London, will expand this year to focus on structures as well as rigging issues. Robin Elias of Unusual Rigging will deliver the event’s keynote speech, and Gavin Bull from the HSE’s construction division is among the session leaders planned for the event.

Industry Partners Enhance Hands-on Training for Backstage Academy Students

WAKEFIELD, U.K. — More than 50 students taking part in Backstage Academy’s 16-month live events production course have been getting hands-on experience with an assist from industry partners including lighting gear manufacturers and rental companies. Graduates earn a Foundation Degree in Live Events Production, which was independently written in collaboration with industry practitioners (validated by The University of Bolton) and places emphasis on practical experience.
