City Theatrical’s Wireless DMX Runs ‘Chocolate Factory’ Musical

LONDON – The new musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, has been the most eagerly anticipated opening in London’s West End this year. With direction by Sam Mendes, set and costume design by Mark Thompson, and lighting design by Paul Pyant, it is this summer’s golden ticket. City Theatrical worked closely with UK specialist lighting contractor Howard Eaton to realize the demanding wireless DMX requirements.

On Macau’s Cotai Strip, the Cotai Arena is part of The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel. The new RJ Lancelots will augment the venue’s existing lighting inventory which already boasts four of these long throw followspots.

BRATISLAVIA, Czech Republic – Clay Paky’s Alpha Spot HPE 700s and Alpha Wash 700s alongside its Alpha Profile 1500s are being used to light pop idols on the Czech and Slovak Nova TV show, “SuperStar,” a show aimed at discovering the next big singing sensation. Clay Paky’s Bratislavia-based distributor, Pro JGS Light, Sound and Video, supplied the fixtures to Prague-based production company Media Pro Pictures.

ETC Source Four LEDs Shine On Viking Ship Exhibit

ROSKILDE, Denmark — Around 1025 AD, a fierce 120-foot Viking warship of the Danish fleet rode the northern waves. Excavated in 1997 from a Roskilde fjord bed, the ship has now been partly restored.  A steel skeleton has been built around its wooden remains. Roskilde 6 makes a new “voyage,” in the National Museum of Denmark’s exhibit Viking, June 22-Nov. 17, 2013. ETC’s Source Four LED fixtures, controlled by an ETC Ion console and Unison Paradigm system, bring the vessel to light.

Clay Paky Lights the Stage for Vasco Rossi

ITALY – There was a job to finish: the 2011 tour for Vasco Rossi. The Italian rock star from Emilia had health problems, which interrupted his tour. Now there were seven sold-out concerts in two large stadiums – four in Turin and three in Bologna. The stage was designed by Giò Forma. The rig was inspired by the triangular shape of Vasco’s historic logo, around which LD Giovanni Pinna devised the lighting plot. Clay Paky lights dominated the show, including 40 Alpha Spot HPE 1500s, 20 Alpha Profile 1500s, 20 Alpha Beam 1500s and 18 Shotlight Washes.

UK – Blackout’s team designed a custom-built touring truss structure for the firstseries of ‘Sky Art’s Portrait Artist of the Year’ competition, due on screens this autumn. The reality TV show visited four locations across the UK – London, Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin – with more than 2,000 entrants battling out to win the title.  The winner will see their work displayed in the National Portrait Gallery and awarded a £10,000 commission to produce a portrait of award-winning author Hilary Mantel.
