Stage Technologies Supplies Big Automation for Oz’s King Kong

LONDON – Five years in the making, the King Kong musical, produced by Australia’s Global Creatures, has opened to thrilled and awed audiences Melbourne, Australia’s Regent Theatre. The star of the show is undoubtedly the six meter, one ton King Kong puppet, designed by Global Creature Technology. King Kong is considered a breakthrough in automation control, allowing the puppeteering of large scenic elements while retaining the full control and safety systems within the automation system.

Alcorn McBride Supports Video Artist’s London Show

LONDON – Alcorn McBride’s A/V Binloop HD players and DVM8500 Digital Video Machines play an artful role in internationally-renowned video artist Bill Viola’s new show at the Blain|Southern Gallery in London. Associates in Media Engineering (AME), a consortium of consultants and a boutique provider of custom solutions for the special venue marketplace, chose the Alcorn McBride equipment for longtime customer Viola. The show, titled “Frustrated Actions and Futile Gestures,” is a museum-scale exhibition of nine new works comprised from more than 20 newly produced video elements and sound designs, says Benjamin Kidwell Lein of AME.

Kinesys Opens Doors for Robbie Williams Tour

LONDON – Kinesys has designed an automation system to open and close two large set doors integrated into the rear video wall backdrop on Robbie Williams’ current ‘Take The Crown’ stadium tour. The doors – positioned stage left and stage right – each measure 7.73 meters high (25 ft) by 6 meters wide (20 ft) and open and close to allow set trucks with giant heads of the singer to enter and exit the stage.

FINLAND – Mojo Barriers kept the crowds safe with its second generation barrier system at the first ‘Rock the Beach’ festival, held June 26-29 on Finland’s Hietaniemi Beach. More than 51,000 people enjoyed the inaugural event, with headliners Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age, 30 Seconds to Mars and Rammstein. Mojo Barriers’ Finnish distributor Roudaamo Event Warehouse installed more than 300m (984 ft) of black aluminum barrier configured across three stages.

Clay Paky Goes for Gold at Mediterranean Games

ISTANBUL, Turkey  – Istanbul-based event engineering company Phantom has supplied a team of Clay Paky Alpha, A.Leda, and Sharpy fixtures to light the 2013 Mediterranean Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Eighteen months of preparation culminated in the June 20 Opening Ceremony of the 17th Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey. LD Jean-François Bonnement from Paris-based visual arts company Concept K specified more than 400 Clay Paky fixtures in his design.

TRING, UK – The first music festival to be promoted by an industry technical production company – Chilfest by Universal Event Productions (UEP) – was declared a success. UEP’s Steve Butcher – who came up with the idea to celebrate the company’s 15th birthday – was “completely blown away” with the response and the outcome. LONDON – London rental company Entec Sound & Light supplied a ‘specials’ package to LD Tony Austin for the latest tour by Portishead, which followed up on shows earlier in the year by the Bristol band. This most recent series of gigs culminated with their Friday night headline slot on The Other Stage at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, a performance preceded by warm-up shows in Scandinavia and The Netherlands.
