TRENTO, Italy – The opening ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships featured acrobats, dancers and climbers in a show broadcast worldwide by Italian state television. The lights were split into two groups. Marco Spagnoli was lighting director for white lights, while Mario Zanella took care of the effects and the respective lighting design, relying heavily on Clay Paky Sharpys.

Each fixture is individually and independently controlled, with automatic triggers for seasonal changes and special occasions. The lights are on for 10 hours each night, year-round.

SANTA CATARINA, Brazil – The statue of Jesus Christ overlooks the city of Balneário Camboriú, with one arm outstretched, welcoming visitors from near and far, and the other carrying a symbol of the sun. The statue’s recent lighting installation uses just six SGM P-5 LED wash lights to shines a different color each night to symbolize peace, love, health, faith, happiness, nature and energy.

LONDON – For One Direction’s Take Me Home world tour, the production team of Production North, Lite Alternative and Wigwam were brought in. They were to transform the cityscape arena concept of creative designer, Elizabeth Honan, into reality. Production designer Paul Normandale used 30 of SGM’s new X-5 white LED strobes for the first time to replace conventional xenon-driven devices.

SYDNEY – War Horse, the now legendary World War I drama depicting the devotion of a boy to his horse, has moved stage audiences in the UK and US, winning five 2011 Tony Awards.
