Vari-Lite VLXs Beam New Life into Australian Venue

MELBOURNE – A cast of Vari-Lite-VLX Wash luminaires have been installed as part of a AUD$136 million ($143 million USD) revamp of Melbourne’s Hamer Hall theatre. The technical team chose the VLX Wash luminaires following a shoot-out between the Vari-Lite fixtures and other brands.The fixture’s ability to color match with conventional luminaires was a key factor in the decision.

Chameleon Touring Lights Brisbane Festival with LumenRadio

BRISBANE, Australia – Australia’s annual 30-night Brisbane Festival last fall featured 32, 292 sq ft of lighting, visible for more than 6 miles throughout downtown Brisbane’s business district.  A LumenRadio system distributed control data wirelessly to all lighting elements of the event. Sponsored by Santos GLNG City of Lights and designed by John Rayment, the festival’s lighting was provided and installed by Chameleon Touring Systems.

Nitro Circus Ramps it Up with Martin VC-Dot 4

LONDON – Martin Professional’s new VC-Dot LED string was used to line the 14-meter high (46 ft)  “Giganta” take off ramp on Nitro Circus Live’s recent European tour. LD Paul Collison specified the string of LED Dots as accent lighting on ramp edges to replace the fragile LED tubes used on previous tours. Neg Earth provided the lighting.

Bootleg Beatles Tour Gets Help from Entec Friends

LONDON – Entec Sound & Light continued its long working relationship with The Bootleg Beatles, a recognized tribute band to the legendary British musical group. The touring show started off largely in ‘monochrome’ to mimic the minimal stage/effects lighting that would have been available when the band’s career kicked off back in the 1960s, and exploded into colors and projections during the psychedelia era as the show’s musical repertoire progressed into the band’s later works. Entec has provided technical production for the band since 1994, playing to old and new generations of Beatles enthusiasts.

Prolyte Group’s Halo Glyph Lights Up London

LONDON – Cinimod Studio in conjunction with Prolyte Group’s Special Projects Division, Litestructures, have delivered the most epic of public lighting installations to mark the launch of the Halo 4 Xbox 360 game. Agency AKQA (acting on behalf of Microsoft/Xbox) commissioned Cinimod Studio to create the illuminated structure – based on the Halo 4 Glyph symbol – which would fly over London. Cinimod Studio turned to Litestructures to help bring their concept to life.

MAC III AirFX Take a Hammering on Deep Purple

LONDON – Deep Purple lighting designer Louis Ball has just given Martin Professional’s new MAC III AirFX lighting fixture a thorough workout on the band’s November/December European arena tour. Ball, who has been with Deep Purple since 1984, put the fixtures through their paces with a trim height of 10 meters (32 ft.) giving ample room to see what the fixtures could do. There were 24 MAC III AirFX paired with MAC III Profiles across an upstage, midstage and downstage truss with one AirFX on each side of the downstage floor used as side light. TDA Rental supplied the fixtures.

Red Xmas Party in Slovenia Lit with Robe Fixtures

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia – Slovenia welcomed the 2012 festive season in style at the Red XMas Party, one of the country’s largest and hottest dance events, at the Arena Stozice in Ljubljana. Event Lighting supplied the lighting rig, which featured 70 Robe moving lights at its core. The design was based on a plot by Van Buuren’s LD André Beekmans, and operated by Michael Seeverens, both from Netherlands-based The Art Of Light.
