Chauvet Lights Another ‘Idol Puerto Rico’ Season

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Chauvet Professional fixtures were again chosen for the new season of TV’s ‘Idol Puerto Rico.’ LD David Ayala used Chauvet Professional SparkliteLED Drape backdrop drapes for the show’s first season, then added for the current one more than 70 Chauvet Professional fixtures. Musique Xpress supplied the lighting.

Robe at ‘Face of the Year’ TV Event

BRATISLAVA, Slovak Republic – LD Martin Kubanka used Robe moving lights to illuminate Slovak Republic’s 2012 ‘Face of The Year’ contest and gala evening, which was broadcast live on national channel STV1. His role was to not only light the set but also to make the models competing in the event look their best. He worked closely with set designer Dano Sichma for this show. Slovakian rental company Q-99 supplied the gear.

Swedish House Mafia Uses Clay Paky for DVD Shoot

MILTON KEYNES, UK – For Swedish House Mafia’s DVD shoot, LD Ian Tomlinson specified Clay Paky Sharpys to add more effects to the show at the National Bowl at Milton Keynes. Tomlinson followed a ‘less is more’ approach, filling the gaps for the camera shots and lighting the stage and audience in a visual onslaught. HSL supplied 60 Clay Paky Sharpys, which were attached to the bottom of the video pods.

VANCOUVER – World Vision raises funds for its African relief programs each year by staging a tour across Canada.  This year’s headliner was Alan Tam, who performed shows beneath a Martin rig of MAC 101 and MAC 700 series moving heads. Vancouver-based Canton Productions called upon Jason McKinnon from Electric Aura Projects (EAP) to design the tour lighting.

BERLIN – Robe moving lights – including 30 MMX Spots and 44 ColorWash 700E ATs – were in action on the Main Stage at the 2012 Berlin Festival, taking place over two days at the former US military base, Tempelhof Airfield. Tilman Schumacher, production lighting designer for the main stage, specified the Robe fixtures, although the rig was based heavily on Steven Douglas’s festival design for headlining act The Killers.

LONDON – LD Dan Hardiman has specified Philips Vari-Lite fixtures for four British arena concerts by Evanescence. “I’ve specified Vari-Lite fixtures for all Evanescence shows in the past 14 months because they’re the only fixtures that can deliver the same effect regardless of venue, which was essential for a tour that has ranged from clubs to stadiums, and everything in between,” says Hardiman.

During a string of shows in the UK and Europe, Metcalfe swapped his Full Boar console for the new Hog 4 desk. The designer says he enjoys the extra real estate afforded by the Hog 4, but appreciates the familiar ergonomics of the Hog family of control systems. While getting up to speed with the Hog 4 was effortless for Oli, this tour is Muse’s most complex production to date, with control and networking perfection being integral to its success.
