ESSEN, Germany – German lighting designer Nik Evers has been using GLP’s impression Wash One and impression 90 for “The Dome,” a popular music TV show in Germany. Evers uses the GLP fixtures not only to highlight the architectural elements of the show’s theatre interior – as a former industrial facility – but also for the stage lighting, preferring to light the artists like a concert rather than as a TV show.

REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES – The holiday resort destination of the Maldive Islands, in the Indian Ocean, has provided the exotic location for PR Lighting’s latest foray. Local event management company BeamOn is using the XS1200 Spot on the celebrity TV show, Tharinge Rey 2012, broadcast by Maldives TV station DhiTV.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – South African technical production company Blond Productions supplied Robe ROBIN MMX Spots and 600E Beam moving lights to a new games show, “Musiek Trivia,” recorded at ZSE Studios in Johannesburg. The music trivia-focused game show needed lighting to create a mood with drama and some ‘wow’ moments rather than provide flat, clinical lighting for TV.

NOTTINGHAM, UK – Detonate Indoor Festival 2012, held May 6, is an eight-arena, four-venue music festival which featured more than 50 artists and dozens of CHAUVET fixtures.

LONDON – Avolites details its involvement in the Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Olympic Stadium in London. There were 2 Ai Infinity servers and 2 Sapphire Media consoles providing the control and back-up for the Immersive Team to map and control the 80,000 x 9 pixel mini screens in each seat, producing one of the world’s largest video screens.

LONDON — Short on narrative twists, but long on spectacle, the closing ceremony for the 2012 Olympics, themed “A Symphony of British Music,” chronicled the contributions made by British artists since the 1960s. Along with the parade of British performers, the lighting, video and pyro design all worked with the stage design as a unified whole — with the converging stripes of the Union Jack symbolizing the Olympian ideal of unity amid diversity.

TOLLARD ROYAL, SOUTH WILTSHIRE, UK –  Entec Sound & Light supplied a substantial stage, architectural and garden lighting package to the 2012 Larmer Tree Festival, staged in the picturesque environs of Larmer Tree Gardens. The weather – characteristic of the UK’s wettest summer on record – made the general conditions and negotiating the site extremely tough, but all the gear and spirits held up.

HANNOVER, Germany – Boiling water was turned into ice, railroad tracks were bent with bare hands and even talking camels were part of this magic evening for illusionists the Ehrlich Brothers.  coolux Pandoras Box products played a vital role during the execution of many of their magic tricks. The Widget Designer software in particular made it possible to set up and control a great number of effects via a touch screen interface.

LONDON – Czech technical solutions Provider AV Media provided Robe moving lights and Anolis LED fixtures for the Czech House Pavilion at the Summer Olympics. With no air conditioning and summer temps in full bloom, low-emitting heat sources were needed for the venue, and the fixtures selected fit the bill, with the entire rig using only around 180 kW of power.

AGEN, France – The French city of Agen has illuminated the facades along Boulevard de la Republique and Place Wilson with Martin Professional products, specifically 350 Martin Tripix 300 linear LED luminaires and 6 Exterior 410 color changers. LD Lionel of Bessiere Quartiers Lumieres worked on the project with installers Electromontage and Inéo.

LONDON – Ambersphere Solutions recently worked with Entec Sound & Light to supply a number of Clay Paky GlowUp fixtures used for a premium jewelry product showcase. Says Entec’s Ryan Brown,  “Running one of the GlowUps from the desk, and then being able to control all the others through the intuitive technology contained within the lights is so incredibly useful and time saving.”

BERLIN – Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang’s 30th birthday show at O2 World in Berlin featured Robe moving lights. Broadcast live and web streamed, the concert included ROBIN MMX Spots, ROBIN 1200 LEDWashes, ColorSpot and ColorWash 1200E ATs, all positioned on 400 meters of trussing flown in the venue’s roof. Herbie Hancock was among the special guests.
