DERBY, UK – The University of Derby has recently purchased a quantity of Chroma-Q Color Force 12 LED fixtures and Chroma-Q Universal color changers for students to learn on in the course of Sound, Light and Live Event Technology. Students enrolled in the course produce events in various venues around the region, so the department was keen to use LED technology for flexibility and energy issues.

DORTMUND, Germany – The 15-hour Mayday techno party at Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle immersed clubbers in an environment created by 90 of SGM’s new X-5 and XC-5 LED strobes. The 50 white lights and 40 RGB strobes, specified by LD Thomas Gerdon and supplied by production company, schoko pro, were in constant action throughout the marathon.

LONDON – Clay Paky’s lighting fixtures are ‘Dancing on Ice’ at Britain’s biggest arenas this spring as the hit ITV show goes on tour. LD Durham Marenghi, who has designed this show since 2008, has specified Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE and Profile 1500s, Alpha Spot HPE 300s and Alpha Beam 700s to create a dynamic light show for each skater, while a single Sharpy lights the Winners Trophy throughout.

WAKEFIELD, UK – In the two years since the merger with Prolyte Group, the Litestructures brand has evolved into a special projects division of the Group. It now has its own website. Prolyte Group’s website will continue to provide information about the company’s other brands: ProlyteStructures, StageDex, ProLyft and the Litestructures standard trussing.

CANBERRA, Australia – Anolis ArcPad 48 LED fixtures are internally lighting artist Stuart Green’s ‘Droplet’ sculpture, a 6 meter tall by 3 meter wide stainless steel work which has been installed on the corner of Furzer and Worgon Streets in the Phillip Woden district of Canberra, Australia. The fixtures are installed in the base of Droplet, programmed to run a color changing sequence that morphs from blue to pink to white over a five-minute period.

STUTTGART, Germany – A Jands Vista T2 is at the heart of the lighting control system at Friedrichsbau Varieté in Stuttgart, a venue featuring variety shows. Technical Director/LD Torsten Schulz specified the console to to run up to 156 dimmers, a number of automated lights and a media server. Friedrichsbau Varieté stages four of its own well known productions each year, featuring internationally acclaimed artists as well as new talents.

HELSINKI, Finland – During the darkest days of winter, Helsinki brightens the nights in an event called Lux Helsinki. High End Systems lighting consoles commanded one of Helsinki’s most visible landmarks – the Olympic Stadium Tower – which was transformed into a light installation called the Variant Spectrum. LD Jukka Huitila designed the architectural project.

WAKEFIELD, UK – British electronic music group Leftfield, with the help of Red Bull Studios London, recently performed a special show at London’s Brixton O2 Academy in aid of War Child. For the event, Prolyte Group supplied two branded versions of LiteConsole, which were internally lit for maximum visual impact.

LOS ANGELES – For rapper/pop singer-songwriter Pitbull’s PlanetPit World Tour 2012, LD Justin Geiger of Impulse Creative Group designed the rig to highlight multiple heights and depths. He’s using six Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures on band risers and four Sharpys in each of the two wings, with eight more across the top. Briere Production Group is supplying the gear.
