LED lighting is the going trend for TV studios wanting to cut energy consumption. A year after its release, Robert Juliat’s Aledin LED zoom profile spot fixture is finding a home in television studios worldwide, but especially in Europe and Canada.

AMMAN, Jordan – The new Boxing Arena in King Hussein Youth City was inaugurated recently with a six-hour-long Cage Warriors event, televised on international sports TV channels. LD James Cameron Quigley designed the rig, using 24 XL Beam 300s from PR Lighting to punch up the fighters’ entrance with beam effects.

LONDON – LD Rob Sinclair’s design for Adele’s international tour this year featured a distinctive back wall of 96 cone-shaped lampshades using 60-watt incandescent household bulbs to illuminate them. The rest of the show featured moving lights that didn’t move, and lots of white light, to allow Adele’s voice to be the star. Jands Vista v2 software controlled the show.

MOSCOW — Organizers of a big anniversary celebration for the city of Moscow, which marked 864 years, used a Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom system, which also distributed the timecode synchronizing a large-format projection with pyro effects. The 4D projection-mapped show, produced by David Atkins Enterprises, was beamed onto the exterior walls of Moscow University.

MADRID, Spain – A Spanish bullfighting arena served as the location for Coldplay’s one-off performance Oct. 26 to promote their new album, Mylo Xyloto. Stageco provided five trucks of equipment for the show, which was challenged when bad weather turned the sandy floor into mud. Anton Corbijn filmed the gig and streamed it live on YouTube.

BLACKPOOL, UK – The Hot Ice Show at UK amusement park, Pleasure Beach Blackpool, has chosen the Jands Vista lighting and media control system for their ice skating spectacular. The show entertains nearly 20,000 spectators each week.

LONDON – London -based Blackout rigged and draped a curvacious set for the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards held Nov. 6 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

MANCHESTER, UK – dbn Lighting supplied lighting design and equipment – including trussing and all necessary rigging – to the main stage at the 2011 Ramsbottom Festival. dbn’s Nick Buckley designed the three-day event which included acts such as The Waterboys.

PARIS, France – Belgian LD Francis Mannaert is currently using Philips Vari-Lite VL3000 Spot and Wash Luminaires to set the scene for the National Opera of Ukraine’s touring ballet, set to the music of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. The production is playing across France.

MANNHEIM, Germany – Coolux Pandoras Box products were called in to help the city celebrate the 125th anniversary of Karl Benz’s modern automobile. (He received the first patent in 1886 for a gas-fueled car.) The “Autosymphonic” event combined live music, an orchestra, 80 cars used as instruments on stage, water fountains and architectural projections onto a local landmark.
