CAMBRIDGE, U.K. – Large-scale projections designed by Ross Ashton helped bring the year-long celebration for Cambridge University's 800th year to a close. Called Transforming Tomorrow, the light shows were projected onto Cambridge's Senate House and adjacent Old School, and also part of Kings College Chapel and the nearby Gibbs Building.

BRUSSELS – Besix, a Belgian conglomerate, marked 100 years in business with a show designed by Luc Petit featuring some 70 dancers and acrobats. Tof Leuba, the show's programmer, used Compulite gear to control the Procon Belgium-supplied rig, which included an assortment of Clay Paky and Vari-Lite light fixture along with Robert Juliat followspots.

DUBAI, U.A.E. – Soaring 2,717 feet in height (828 meters) – more than twice as high as the 1,250-foot-high Empire State Building – the Burj Kahlifa opened with lighting and projection complementing the Jan. 4 fireworks and water effects display for the opening of the $1.5 billion structure.

SINGAPORE – Anime Festival Asia 2009 (AFA09), a two-day festival for fans of Japanese animation and pop music, was held recently at Singapore's Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event featured Shoko Nagakawa, Yoshiki Fukuyama, Ichirou Mizuki and May'n and the crew relied upon gear from Martin Professional for lighting, video and control.

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. – Cover It Up helped the Slammin' Vinyl NYE-NEC DJ dance party take place in the main arena and the pavilion areas of Birmingham's NEC. The main challenge was to design and rig a pipe and drape system that would serve as a sonic baffling system, separating the sounds between the two principal spaces.

MOSCOW – JSA Europe's set and lighting designer, Andrey Dubkovs, is using 240 square meters of Martin LC Series video panels, 80 square meters of other LED wall elements, more than 50 Martin MAC 2000 Washes and Atomic 3000 strobes with Atomic Colors scrollers for the farewell tour for Russian rock band Agata Kristi.

LIVERPOOL, U.K. – Laughing in the face of inclement winter weather, Adlib supplied lighting and sound for comedian Russell Howard's recent 10-date arena tour throughout the U.K. Howard is the star of Mock The Week and Russell Howard's Good News.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Seelite A/S and LD Lars Nissen used more than 1,000 GLP Impression fixtures to light the plenum rooms, television broadcast locations and other ancillary areas of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP 15.

IPSWITCH, U.K. – Eclipse Sound & Light owner Andy Collins, who has been using various PR Lighting products since he set up his sales and rental company back in 2003, recently ordered a number of PR's new XLED 590s after putting a trial pair loaned by UK distributors MilTec (UK) through their paces during a fireworks display last year.

PARMA, Italy – LD Mamo Pozzoli used Martin's LC Series panels in a cylindrical configuration for Gianna Nannini's 15-date GiannaDream tour. The LED structure is positioned at center stage and serves as the visual centerpiece of the set.

BERLIN – XL-Technologies was chosen by design agency Atelier Markgraph to supply two custom Pixled F-30 screens for the Mercedes Benz Gallery showroom in Berlin. The two screens are different sizes and flown at different angles in the showroom. Each has staggered edges and is comprised of adapted and sized Pixled modules.
