ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – For the 2009 St. Andrews Festival, Ross Ashton from E/T/C London created a series of three projection art works. Two of the three works for the three-day event were projected on the ruins of the Cathedral of St. Andrews.

MILAN, Italy – Clay Paky lighting instruments have been used on two TV productions that aired recently on Italia 1: Chiambretti Night – Solo per numeri uno (Only for number ones), a late-night variety show conducted by Piero Chiambretti; and the 13th series of Le Iene (The Hyenas), a TV program conceived by Neri Parenti with minimalist scenery and visual references to Quentin Tarantino's film, Reservoir Dogs.

GUANZHOU, China – Spotlight, an Italy-based manufacturer of professional fixtures for the performing arts, has announced that it has supplied gear to some of the major venues for the performing arts in China, including the Guanzhou Opera House, the Chongqing Grand Theater and the Concert Hall in Shenzhen.

OSTEND, Belgium – XL-Technologies, a Belgium-based LED sales and solutions company, has been formed. It has been set up to offer LED technologies for a variety of shows, events, displays, art and installations and will also serve as worldwide distributor of the Pixled LED brand.  The new company will be led by Koen Bossuyt.

TOKYO and SINGAPORE – Robert Juliat opened two new branches recently, in Tokyo and Singapore. The company also named Masaaki Segawa president of Robert Juliat Japan and Jamie Boey branch manager in Singapore, which will also serve customers in China, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and India.

COQUELLES, France – Coquelles near Calais, France, is known for its terminal for the Channel Tunnel connecting the U.K. and France. The City Council of Coquelles decided to update the look of one of its key commercial streets – Avenue Charles de Gaulle – with a lighting scheme using LED fixtures from Anolis.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Gearhouse South Africa's Cape Town branch supplied staging, lighting, audio, LED and technical crew to Out The Box Productions for the annual "Switching on of The Festive Lights" on and around Adderley Street.

SYDNEY – LSC's Clarity lighting control software and VX20 wing were used for the main stage, called The Musik Haus, at Oktoberfest 2009, a five-stage event put on by ARC, organizers of student events at the University of New South Wales, which was attended by close to 8,000 students.

JOHANNESBURG – LD Tim Dunn used nearly 300 Robe fixtures in his design for Miss World 2009, which was staged at the Gallagher Convention Centre – the largest number of Robe fixtures to date that Dunn has used on a single event.

ABU DHABI, U.A.E – At the 2009 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Flash Entertainment produced a four-night series of concerts for race weekend ticket holders with headliners including Beyoncé, Jamiroquai, Kings of Leon and Aerosmith. Luke Bonner of Production Technology LLC used Cast Software's wysiwyg to model the lighting rig, which included more than 750 fixtures.

LONDON – GLP's Impression 120 RZ Zoom made its touring debut recently with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' U.K. theatre tour, in a lighting design by LD Matt Arthur that lit the distinctive "eyeball" features used on the band's set. 

MANCHESTER, U.K. — DBN Lighting designed, supplied and  installed lighting for Da Vinci — the Genius, an exhibition at the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester (MOSI).
