U.K.-Based Utopium Invests in New Lighting and Rigging Equipment

LONDON and BRISTOL, U.K. – Utopium has invested in new lighting and rigging equipment to bolster the production company’s already extensive inventory. Utopium now stocks SGM P-2s (LED RGBW Floods), Martin MAC Quantum Profile LED moving lights, Chauvet Rogue R1 LED moving wash lights, Robert Juliat Roxie LED followspots, SGM G-Spots (LED IP65 moving profiles), SGM Q-7s (LED IP65 strobe / flood / blinders) and ProLights Z8 LED IP65 wireless battery battens. NASHVILLE—For Alan Jackson’s 2016 “Still Keepin’ it Country” tour, Craig Rutherford of Blueshift Design is serving as production and lighting designer. He was looking for something with more versatility than a standard beam light fixture. He found it in Elation Professional’s Platinum FLX. Nashville-based Elite Multimedia Productions is supplying the gear, along with the rest of the show’s lighting and video elements. “Still Keepin’ it Country” started in April and will play festival and arena dates until November.

USITT Provides Free Rigging Inspections to 11 School Stages

NEW YORK – Continuing its Rigging Safety Initiative (RSI) program, which USITT launched five years ago, the association recently approved free stage rigging inspections and safety training for 11 more schools, located in Natick, MA; Woodbury, MN; Medford, NJ; Chazy and Fredonia, NY; Elyria, OH; Greendale, WI;  and in Houston and Wayland, TX. Since its launch, USITT has accepted more than 120 schools into the RSI program. The schools get a free rigging inspection and safety training performed by USITT’s partner rigging companies, which charge USITT a reduced rate.

Broadcast on the ARD television network, the show offers both music performances and Candid Camera-style pranks. The rig includes Platinum SBX moving heads, Satura Spot CMY Pro LED moving heads, Platinum Wash ZFX Pro XL LED wash lights and ACL 360 Roller effect lights.

AMSTERDAM – For DJ Armin van Buuren’s new ‘Armin Only’ mega-show at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, titled ‘Armin Only – Embrace,’ the same technical and creative team backing the ‘Armin Only – Intense’ world tour in 2014 used 162 Robe moving lights. A blend of Pointes, LEDWash 600s and LEDBeam 100s were unleashed for the four-hour trance event.

Pitbull Performs in Las Vegas with Chauvet Nexus 4×4 Panels

LAS VEGAS – Pitbull performed at the Axis in Planet Hollywood on the LED-video-drenched Las Vegas Strip with a visual twist – Chauvet’s 4×4 COB LED panels instead of LED video displays. Michael Smalley and Gabe Fraboni of Twin Designs positioned 138 Nexus 4×4 panels on the fascia of tri-level band and dancer risers.
