AES Standards Committee Ratifies OCA as Public Open Standard

BOTHELL, WA — The OCA Alliance has noted that its Open Control Architecture (OCA), an open control and monitoring standard that the alliance created for professional audio and AV media network devices, has been officially standardized by the Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee (AESSC) in their published AES70-2015 standard for audio applications of networks — Open Control Architecture. With the Jan. 4, 2016 ratification of OCA as AES70, it is now an official public open standard.

Blizzard Shuts Down Broadway, Other Live Shows in NYC, DC, Baltimore

NEW YORK — The closure of Broadway due to the Blizzard of 2016 on Saturday, Jan. 23 was not without precedent. The threat of a big storm in Jan. 2015 did the same thing, and theatres also closed during Hurricane Sandy in late 2012. But the 2016 storm, which dumped more than 26 inches of snow in Central Park, remained iffy enough on Jan. 23 that some Saturday matinee audiences were already in their seats when the plug had to be abruptly pulled.

VER Acquires the Business of DPS, Inc. and Retains Key Employees

LOS ANGELES — VER has acquired the business of DPS Inc., a production services company. In a sale ordered by the bankruptcy court, VER acquired more than half of the company’s lighting and film equipment, nearly all of its audio, video, and rigging equipment, its 70,000-square-foot facility near Burbank, CA and retained nearly half of the company’s employees. PRG acquired a substantial portion of DPS’ lighting assets as well.
