USITT to Bestow Honors for Architectural Design

SALT LAKE CITY – USITT announced winners of its annual archictectural competition for best performance space design. Top honors will go to the Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago (pictured here), the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool, UK, and the Salle de Spectacles de Mont-Laurier in Quebec, Canada. Designers and consultants for the winning venues will receive their awards at USITT 2016 in Salt Lake City March 16-19.

Nashville Celebrates New Year’s Eve with Bandit Support

NASHVILLE — Nashville set a new record for its Jack Daniel’s Bash on Broadway: New Year’s Eve in Music City event. Bandit Lites once again provided the lighting for both the Music City Stage and the 150 foot tower adorned with the massive music note that ushered in 2016. LD John Lucksinger oversaw the lighting, with an assist from Bandit LD Teresa Porterfield-Fensler. Chris Lisle served as production manager for the event, which involved 45 truckloads of gear and 242 local stagehands.

Music City Big Break in Nashville Gets Elite Multimedia Visual Assist

NASHVILLE – For the inaugural Music City Big Break competition held at the Mercy Lounge, event founders/producers David Bell and John C. Davis and production designer Steven Dahl turned to Elite Multimedia for show visuals that included lighting and video gear from Clay Paky, Chauvet, Elation and PixelFlex. Elite’s Jon Chavez served as project manager and Jeff Mathews was the LD for the event.

U.S. Pavilion at Expo 2015 in Milan Lit with ETC Fixtures

MILAN, Italy – For the U.S. exhibition at Expo 2015 in Milan last year, Habegger AG, from Switzerland, designed and installed a lighting system that included energy-saving LED technology from ETC. Approximately 61,354 square feet of exhibition space was lit by 150 Source Four LED Series 2 luminaires, complemented by 20 Selador Desire D60 luminaires and 130 conventional Source Four fixtures.

ETCP Notes High Rate of Credential Holders Opting for Renewal

NEW YORK – ETCP noted a high renewal rate for its original certificants. A decade ago, more than 200 riggers from North America gained their ETCP Certifications at LDI in Orlando, FL. Last November, 90 percent of that inaugural class opted to renew their certifications as the term of their second 5-year renewal was due to expire. Most of those who chose not to renew their certifications have retired from the industry.

LONDON – The European premiere for Star Wars: The Force Awakens took place in London on Dec. 26. 2015. with Utopium lit up Nelson’s Column, a monument in Trafalgar Square, during the red carpet event. Utopium provided 24 Clay Paky Mythos, three MDG One atmosphere machines, four Studio Due City-color LED’s and two Studio Due City-beams.
