ARGYLE, TX — GoVision named Jay deBlonk, a 10-year veteran of Daktronics, to fill a newly created position, Solutions Manager. In his new role, deBlonk work with GoVision’s sales staff, helping to design and engineer the LED screens, trusses and rigging for a variety of the company’s more complex projects.

HSL Provides Gear to Light U.K. Contest Show, “The Link”

BLACKBURN, U.K. — HSL, based here, provided 30 Clay Paky Sharpys and 30 Jarag lighting fixtures to LD Tom Kinane for the new BBC quiz show series, The Link. The first 25 episodes were recorded in Studio A at BBC Scotland in Glasgow and produced by STV Productions. Presented by Mark Williams (of Harry Potter fame) and directed by Julian Smith, it will air on BBC1 during a primetime 5-6 p.m. slot.

Chaman Lal Memorial Awards in New Delhi Lit with D.T.S. Gear

NEW DELHI, India — For this year’s Chaman Lal Memorial Awards, held April 10 at the Kamani Audutorium in New Delhi’s Mandy House district to honor the memory of stage lighting pioneer Sh. Chaman Lal, Modern Stage Service provided gear to support a a multi-media light, sound and dance drama that followed the awards presentation. The rig included D.T.S. Raptor beam moving heads and NRG 1201 LED moving heads from D.T.S. Lighting.

Christie Supports Lollipop Theater Network Fundraiser

BURBANK, CA — Christie created an outdoor movie theater of sorts for a fundraiser staged by the Lollipop Theater Network on behalf of children fighting chronic illnesses or life threatening diseases. The fundraising event, “A Night Under the Stars,” was set for April 26 at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio lot here. Along with members of its managed services team, who assisted with the event, Christie provided its CP4220 projector for the screening of the animated film, Rio 2.

New Gear Lights Stars in the Desert at Coachella 2014

INDIO, CA – The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, staged here over two weekends April 11-13 and April 18-20, featured headliners Muse, Arcade Fire and more than 180 other acts. In the third year of its double-weekend format, Coachella has not only proven to be a success on the balance sheet — tickets for 2014 sold out within three hours — the festival continues to offer 90,000 daily visitors fresh music along with the element of surprise. It’s also become an early-season proving ground of sorts for a variety of lighting fixtures.

CLEVELAND, OH and BROOKLYN, NY — For Kid Cudi’s recent gigs in Cleveland and Brooklyn in late March, which extended the artist’s 2013 Cud Life tour, LD Joshua Schultz used an Avolites Sapphire Touch console provided by LMG. Schultz is now supporting R. Kelly’s latest tour, which runs through mid-May, again relying on Avolites’ Sapphire Touch for control.

Clay Paky, Chromlech Gear Featured at LIVE Industry Event in Italy

RAVENNA, Italy — Clay Paky’s lighting designer, Marco Zucchinali, incorporated the company’s fixtures including the entire B-EYE light range, SuperSharpy and Stormy fixtures at Live 2014, a demo event held April 13-14 at the Pala de André here. Also featured were Chromlech’s Jarag and Elidy; Clay Paky distributes those products in Italy. The event is sponsored by Italy-based trade organizations including ARILD (the Italian Association of Lighting Designers), ANS (Italian National Event Service Association) and DOC Servizi (the Italian Professional Performing Arts Cooperative).

Guitar Center Rooftop Gigs at SXSW Lit with Robe Pointes

AUSTIN, TX — LD Victor Fable used Robe Robin Pointe fixtures provided by Felix Lighting of La Mirada, CA for the rooftop Guitar Center Sessions at the 2014 South by Southwest (SXSW) music conference, which took place at multiple venues here in March. The GC series included live performances by Soundgarden, Snoop Dogg, Damon Albarn, Phantogram, The Wild Feathers and others. The concerts were taped for broadcast; the performances will air on the Audience Channel in May.
