“Pepsi Grammy Halftime Show” Rig Included Chauvet Nexus 4×4 LEDs

LOS ANGELES — The 2+-minute “Pepsi Grammy Half Time Show” commercial, which depicted ex-football stars “returning the favor” by singing and dancing halfway through a celebrity-studded Grammy Awards-style black tie event (modeled on the actual event, which included Beyoncé and Jay-Z, pictured here), was filmed at the LA Sports Arena using a lighting rig from Visions Lighting. A total of 40 Nexus 4×4 high output COB LED panels from Chauvet Professional were included in the lighting rig.

Four Hit by Ceiling Debris at Concord Music Hall in Chicago

CHICAGO — Shortly after DJ Datsik took the stage at Concord Music Hall here at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 8, small amounts of ceiling debris appeared to shake loose. Moments later, large chunks of debris fell, hitting at least four in the audience. One of the injured declined medical treatment. Three others were transported to nearby hospitals — two with minor injuries and one whose injuries appeared to be more serious, according to local reports.

USITT Announces YD&T Awards Winners for 2014

FORT WORTH, TX – USITT announced the winners of its 2014 Young Designers & Technicians Awards competition. The 11 winners will be presented with the honors at the association’s Conference & Stage Expo, which is set to talke place at the Fort Worth Convention Center here March 26-29. Three of the winners are from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, three are from Carnegie Mellon University, and two are from the Yale School of Drama. The other three are from Purdue University, the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Electrosonic Upgrades Video, Audio System in Texas Spirit Theater

AUSTIN, TX — Electrosonic helped the Bullock Texas State History Museum upgrade its 190-seat 4D Texas Spirit Theater recently. Although the original AV system, also installed by Electrosonic, was still functional, the gear was also a dozen years into its life cycle. For the refurbishment, Electrosonic replaced the existing show control system with an Alcorn McBride V16 Pro show controller and swapped out HD-MPEG video players in favor of a Dataton WATCHOUT video playback system. The project was complete in time for the Nov. 2013 premiere of the short film, Shipwrecked, which supports a new exhibition on the excavation of the barque La Belle, which sank off the Texas coast in 1686.
