WOERDEN, The Netherlands — Purple Haze, a technical solutions and equipment provider based here, is run by Andre van der Heyden, who founded the company 35 years ago, naming it in honor of the Jimi Hendrix song. He bought his first Robe products in 2004 and has continued to invest in the brand, most recently with a purchase of 16 Robe Robin Pointe fixtures and eight MMX Spots from Robe’s Benelux distributor Controllux.

The Robe Robin MiniMe is compact, light in weight and quick in its movements, with an LED light source rated for 20,000 hours of use. Well suited for applications including bars, nightclubs, restaurants or for retail lighting, the MiniMe is an effects lighting fixture that can also make use of full video output. BRUSSELS, BE — Pukkelpop 2013, which drew 60,000 with headliners including Eminem, The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails, featured an opening night party in the 30,000 capacity Boiler Room. The main visual attractions was a 3D overhead video wall with pixel mapped content driven by an ArKaos Stage server. The ceiling effects were the idea of Belgian design company, Arf & Yes, brought to life by their lighting designers, Philippe Vanderheeren and Ignace D’haese using 3-dimensional video animation.

CalArts Theater Students Using PL Series LED Fixtures

VALENCIA, CA — The California Institute of the Arts’ School of Theater is making use of a range of LED fixtures for the Lighting Design Program led by LD Anne Militello. Forman & Associated provided PL Series fixtures from Philips Entertainment, including PLProfile1, PLCyc1, PL3 Wash and PLProfile4 LED luminaires. The students have already used the fixtures on a number of recent productions, and are likely to make even greater use of the LEDs for the current academic year.
