Main Light Industries Adds W-DMX BlackBox F-1 G4 Transceiver to Inventory

WILMINGTON, DE — Main Light Industries, Inc., based here, has added Wireless Solution’s W-DMX BlackBox F-1 G4 transceiver to its gear inventory. The product is distributed in North America by  A.C.T Lighting. Main Light was prompted to purchase the W-DMX when it was looking for a wireless solution to work with its Clay Paky Igloos as well as other wireless units in its inventory.

Belgian TV Show Includes SGM LED Tubes in the Rig

BRUSSELS, Belgium — Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF), the public broadcasting organization for the southern, French-speaking portion of Belgium, aired a charity fundraiser on behalf of CAP48, an organization that helps the disabled. The live broadcast relied in part on SGM LED tubes for its visual appeal. Jean-Jacques Marotte was the LD.

Xbox One Preview at Microsoft HQ Got Visual Assist from Avolites Media Ai Servers

REDMOND, WA — For the announcement and preview earlier this year of the Xbox One video game console at Microsoft’s headquarters here, two Avolites Media Ai Infinity Servers powered visuals designed by film studios, game developers and Microsoft’s in-house team. The AV setup included 12 stacked 22K projectors. Xbox One, which features an AMD processor eight times faster than the Xbox 360, is due to be released Nov. 22, 2013.

TLS Productions Inc. Opens Doors in Ann Arbor, MI

ANN ARBOR, MI — TLS Productions Inc., which had announced plans to move from its facility in Brighton, MI to a larger space in Ann Arbor, MI earlier this year, noted that the new facility, with approximately double the office and warehouse space of the Brighton location, has now opened its doors. Lighting ‘Oblivion’ with a Projected Sky

Universal Studio’s sci-fi feature film, Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, presents a post-apocalyptic earth, which would seem to demand heavy visual effects (VFX), and while there are many in the film, there are some surprising sequences that are, in fact, not CG. For two of the primary, futuristic sets — the Sky Tower and the Cloud Tower — cinematographer Claudio Miranda, ASC, and director Joseph Kosinski filmed most of the visual effects live in-camera rather than using green screens. It’s an old-school style that immerses the actors in the actual environment, but not the first instinct of filmmakers when the environment is supposed to be a cloud-surrounded glass-walled apartment 3,000 feet in the air.

Record-Setting LED Wall’s Content Managed by Watchout

SINGAPORE — Spanning 15 by 60 meters (height by width) and comprised of 664 integrated 55-inch LG LED flat panel displays, the LED wall inside the lobby for the Suntec Exhibition and Convention Center here has been give the nod by Guinness World Records as a record-holder. Dubbed “The Big Picture,” the display features content managed by Dataton’s Watchout multi-image display and presentation software. The video system can support image resolution of up to 32,051 pixels by 7,941 pixels (WxH).

Ontario’s Centre In the Square Relies on Strand Consoles

KITCHENER, Ontario, Canada — Centre in the Square, which was founded more than 30 years ago, now stages more than 180 events seen by some 200,000 visitors every year. Terry Hynes, head of lighting, oversees both the main stage within 2,047-seat Raffi Armenian Theatre — the main performance space for the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony — as well as the smaller Studio Theatre. For lighting control, he relies upon the Light Palette Live and Palette VL16 consoles from Philips Strand Lighting.
