NASHVILLE – There are 24 Clay Paky Sharpys lighting up country singer Jason Aldean on his Night Train Tour. LD/programmer Aaron Swetland calls Mike Swinford’s show design “very dynamic with a lot of elements and layers.” The automated video screens – which carry the lighting fixtures – move in all directions with 24 axes of movement.  A pair of grandMA2 lighting consoles control it all.

Clay Paky at World Ski Championships

TRENTO, Italy – The opening ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships featured acrobats, dancers and climbers in a show broadcast worldwide by Italian state television. The lights were split into two groups. Marco Spagnoli was lighting director for white lights, while Mario Zanella took care of the effects and the respective lighting design, relying heavily on Clay Paky Sharpys.

GLP impression X4 Makes its Mark with Volt Lites

LOS ANGELES – Rental company Volt Lites, led by LD Matthew Shimamoto, recently purchased GLP’s new impression X4 moving head for their inventory. Prior to purchasing, they decided to trial some of the fixtures on a new TV show that is set to air this month. “We already knew the X4 looked great to the human eye, but we needed to see how they looked under the scrutinizing eye of the camera — and they performed exceptionally well,” he said.

CHICAGO – LD Robb Jibson is using a Jands Vista L5 to control lighting for alt-rock band, Deftones on their latest tour. Traveling with their own custom grid package, the Jands Vista L5 is controlling more than 150 lighting fixtures on the Deftones tour, including a number of LED battens, moving heads, spotlights and strobes.

Jands designed its Stage CL console to meet the needs of those running small lighting rigs that include LED fixtures — without going overboard on price or complexity. Each of the 12 channels has a saturation encoder. Turn the dial, and a LED on the channel shows the color chosen, for single fixtures or groups. Preset buttons also let users click between full and half saturation, and a one-press Record button stores settings and looks.

Robe Installed in Texas Church

MCALLEN, TX – The Family Church (TFC) of McAllen, TX, chose a Robe lighting system for its new 1,400-capacity main worship auditorium. The stage systems for the new auditorium were designed for concerts and broadcasts in addition to the five weekly services. Currently TFC has a web-based ministry, but plans include going to a multisite format, so good broadcast lighting was vital to the final technical plans.
