X-5 LED Strobes Provide Extra Flash for One Direction

LONDON – For One Direction’s Take Me Home world tour, the production team of Production North, Lite Alternative and Wigwam were brought in. They were to transform the cityscape arena concept of creative designer, Elizabeth Honan, into reality. Production designer Paul Normandale used 30 of SGM’s new X-5 white LED strobes for the first time to replace conventional xenon-driven devices.

Maroon 5 “Overexposed” Tour Rig Includes Clay Paky Sharpys, grandMA2

LOS ANGELES – Maroon 5’s Overexposed tour of North America includes Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures, which are used as a wall of light upstage of the LED screens; when the screens rotate, 144 Sharpys are revealed. Production designer/artistic director Demfis Fyssicopulos credited the grandMA2 console used for the tour, not just to control the Sharpys, but also “a plethora of media servers and custom Control Freak Systems solutions.”

Morrissey North American Tour Canceled Due To Health Issues

LINCOLN, NE — Battling health issues that ranged from the diagnosis of a bleeding ulcer in January to pneumonia in both lungs earlier this month, Morrissey, 53, has been forced to cancel the remaining 22 tour dates on his on-again, off-again North American tour, which had been set to run through May 1. There are no plans to reschedule the shows, said Morrissey’s publicist, Lauren Papapietro.

VLX Wash Individual Cell Control

DALLAS – Philips Vari-Lite has released new software for the VLX Wash luminaire which provides individual cell control to the RGBW LED light engines inside. The individual control is achieved through a second DMX mode where users can toggle between combined or individual control.  The new mode only increases the DMX channel count to 72 DMX channels, but users may also still operate the light in the standard mode using 23 DMX channels.

Swedish Singer Petra Touches Heaven with SGM’s LED Balls

STOCKHOLM – Swedish singer songwriter Petra Marklund has been touring with a stage set fabricated largely from more than 3,000 SGM LED Balls (LB-100) rigged as an overhead, interactive spatial canopy. Originally designed as a video light curtain, with low-resolution 120mm pixel pitch, the LB-100 display is made up from long strings, each containing seven white semi-transparent LED balls. Each sphere contains two RGB LEDs to create a 3-D effect when viewed through 360 degrees.

Pete’s Big TVs Supplies ‘Dreamgirls’ Tour

NEW CASTLE, DE – Video equipment rental company Pete’s Big TVs is providing the video equipment, cameras and d3 media servers for the new 2013 production of the “Dreamgirls” tour. Working with MB Productions, Pete’s Big TVs is providing the main set of the show, comprised of 400 digiLED MC15 (15 mm) LED video panels in three screens, which all track and fly in different configurations.
