PLCyc LED Installed at Detroit School Theatre

DETROIT – Technical Director Jim Davis at the Detroit Country Day School upgraded the lighting fixtures at the theatre – the Seligman Performing Arts Center – starting with cyclorama lighting. He chose the PLCyc LED Luminaire from Philips Strand Lighting and Philips Selecon for the 40 ft wide cyc. Vincent Lighting Systems brought the fixtures in for a demo, which led to the purchase of seven units. Davis and the students used them right away on the school’s production of Macbeth.

Negotiations Break Down Between Philadelphia Theatre Company and Striking Stagehands

Negotiations over a new union contract for the striking stagehands at the Philadelphia Theatre Company broke down Sunday, Jan. 20, over what a union rep described as a “punitive” contract offer from the Philadelphia Theatre Company. Mike Barnes, the business agent at IATSE Local 8 in Philadelphia and one of the negotiators with the theatre, said talks broke off after the Philadelphia Theatre Company refused to eliminate the ability of the theatre to hire “alternative,” i.e., non-union, workers to work alongside union ones.

HANOVER, MD- The 4Wall Systems team recently completed work at Maryland Live Casino’s Rams Head Center Stage, a 500-seat live entertainment venue. An interesting challenge arose toward the end of the project, as the client requested eight custom chandeliers scaling down from 21 ft. in diameter to 9 ft. in diameter. No strangers to custom fabrication, the 4Wall team quickly created these custom fixtures using LED light sources with RGB control.

Theatre Tech Expert Harvey Sweet Retires From ETC

MIDDLETON, WI – Theater-technology expert Harvey Sweet has retired from ETC (Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.), after four years as ETC Rigging’s senior product manager. His career spanned 59 years in the theatrical production and equipment manufacturing industry. Sweet was a fundamental part of ESTA’s E1.6 – 1 Rigging Task Group, recognized for developing the motorized-rigging standard, and served on many industry committees. Dr. Sweet is also the published author of three theater-technology textbooks and taught theater technology, scenic design and theater aesthetics for more than 30 years at several universities.
