Student Lighting Design Competition Now Open

LAS VEGAS – Entries are now open for the iSquint.net and Stage Directions magazine Student Lighting Design Competition (SLDC), sponsored by Nemetschek Vectorworks, City Theatrical and Field Template. Design entries must be created using Lightwright and Vectorworks software with Renderworks. Prize package includes Vectorworks Spotlight software, Lightwright, Field Template SoftSymbols and more. Entries are due March 29.

LONDON – XL Video supplied full video production and crew to Madness’s recent UK arena tour. “Luton” Pete Hosier’s stage and video design fused circus and theatricality. He used a large Stealth LED screen upstage, 30 panels wide by 17 deep, with more panels positioned around the curved front and mid trusses to create a crowning effect.

LONDON – Martin Professional’s new VC-Dot LED string was used to line the 14-meter high (46 ft)  “Giganta” take off ramp on Nitro Circus Live’s recent European tour. LD Paul Collison specified the string of LED Dots as accent lighting on ramp edges to replace the fragile LED tubes used on previous tours. Neg Earth provided the lighting.

LONDON – Entec Sound & Light continued its long working relationship with The Bootleg Beatles, a recognized tribute band to the legendary British musical group. The touring show started off largely in ‘monochrome’ to mimic the minimal stage/effects lighting that would have been available when the band’s career kicked off back in the 1960s, and exploded into colors and projections during the psychedelia era as the show’s musical repertoire progressed into the band’s later works. Entec has provided technical production for the band since 1994, playing to old and new generations of Beatles enthusiasts.

Long Reach Long Riders Announce 2013 Route

NEW YORK – The Long Reach Long Riders announce the route for their 10th annual charity motorcycle ride. The eight-day ride starts June 28 in Cleveland. Ride Marshal Scott “Hop Along” Henkels said, “The Great Lakes region has great scenery and terrific bike roads, and it’s central enough to let more riders join us, either for the entire ride or for a day or two. Ten years is a terrific milestone and we want as many riders as possible to share this achievement with us.”
