Prolyte Group’s Halo Glyph Lights Up London

LONDON – Cinimod Studio in conjunction with Prolyte Group’s Special Projects Division, Litestructures, have delivered the most epic of public lighting installations to mark the launch of the Halo 4 Xbox 360 game. Agency AKQA (acting on behalf of Microsoft/Xbox) commissioned Cinimod Studio to create the illuminated structure – based on the Halo 4 Glyph symbol – which would fly over London. Cinimod Studio turned to Litestructures to help bring their concept to life.

Goodman Theatre Calls Sapsis Rigging for Lifelines

CHICAGO – Improving safety conditions for technical staff members has always been a primary goal at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. When timing and budgets came together after the annual production of A Christmas Carol, they called Sapsis Rigging, Inc. Sapsis installed fall arrest equipment in both performance spaces at the Goodman. Daniel Porter, one of the ETCP-certified rigging professionals on the Sapsis staff, supervised the 10-day installation.

The SceneControl 5000 stage automation control system developed by J.R. Clancy and Niscon is designed to serve as a single common control platform for a wide range of stage machinery. The system offers multi-level cueing, submaster control, free and locked groups and an unlimited numbers of axes. Cues, stored show files, and concurrent axes in motion are all unrestricted. The system also can be used for flying performers. Three new operator consoles are available. Password-protected access levels keep unauthorized users out of the system, while offsite secure access allows for remote diagnostics.

MAC III AirFX Take a Hammering on Deep Purple

LONDON – Deep Purple lighting designer Louis Ball has just given Martin Professional’s new MAC III AirFX lighting fixture a thorough workout on the band’s November/December European arena tour. Ball, who has been with Deep Purple since 1984, put the fixtures through their paces with a trim height of 10 meters (32 ft.) giving ample room to see what the fixtures could do. There were 24 MAC III AirFX paired with MAC III Profiles across an upstage, midstage and downstage truss with one AirFX on each side of the downstage floor used as side light. TDA Rental supplied the fixtures.

Spyders, J3 Productions Visually Energize Election Coverage

NEW YORK –  For Election Night 2012 TV coverage, ABC brought in Vista Systems’ Spyders for easy image delivery to a set designed for hosts Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos. John Mims of J3 Productions in Austin, TX, chose the Spyder platform to manage digital video signal distribution and pixel mapping for the background video displays seen on the ABC set in Times Square. Mims selected two Spyder X20 1608 systems running in a parallel configuration to handle Election Night tasks.

XL Events Supplies BBC Holiday Projection

LONDON – When BBC One’s The One Show was chosen to launch the BBC One Christmas line-up, they commissioned arts and technology collective, seeper, to produce a large scale projection onto the front of the BBC. The projection displayed a specially-produced promo film of the BBC’s upcoming Christmas shows on to the building in Wood Lane, West London. To satisfy the requirement for a high lux output, XL Events specified the newest Barco projectors.
