Robe Adds MMX Magic on Jack & The Beanstalk

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – The Johannesburg Theatre took delivery of its 20 new Robe MMX Spot fixtures from Robe’s South African distributor DWR just in time for them to go into action on the annual pantomime, which this year is Jack & the Beanstalk. The MMX Spots are installed in the theatre’s 1063-capacity Mandela auditorium – the largest of its four performance spaces – and Jack & The Beanstalk is the first show to use them.

In Memoriam: K.C. Hooper, 57

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — K.C. Hooper, 57, a product specialist for Apollo Design Technology with more than 30 years of industry experience, died Dec. 12, 2012 after a battle with cancer. Hooper spent 22 years at Arizona State University as technical director and lighting director. He then moved onto Rosco Labs as an account executive. He was guest lecturer at numerous theatre, film production, and university conferences, wrote for several industry publications and made significant contributions in the area of product development.

Clay Paky Fixtures Fill Dance Floor of Halikarnas Club

BODRUM, Turkey – Clay Paky Sharpy and Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300 luminaires are being used in one of Turkey’s super clubs as part of a major lighting and decor redesign. Lighting designers Matthew Button and Trent O’Connor of Arch Lite provided lighting design, production and programming for the Halikarnas club. They needed to fill a huge dance floor from a distance, and make the club look amazing from every angle that the light show could be seen from, said Burton. They examined a number of possibilities of the architectural design, finishing with a futuristic design that encases the lights within the stage roof.

LONDON – Colour Sound Experiment (CSE) is supplying lighting and video (LED screen and control) to the current Peter Andre ‘Up Close & Personal’ UK tour, working with lighting designer Dave Farmer of THC Design. Farmer’s starting point of the design was a basic concept from show producer Christian Storm of Mass Movement, which included some specific video treatments from which Farmer started building the lighting visuals.

Belgium’s Ancienne Belgique Installs Robe

BRUSSELS – Brussels live music venue, the Ancienne Belgique, has invested in 20 Robe Robin MMX Spot moving lights to replace spot fixtures in a major upgrade to their lighting system. The decision to invest in Robe moving lights was a collective one made by all four members of the AB’s in house lighting technical team led by Kris Noerens. After various shoot-outs, the lighting crew toured Robe’s factory and training facility in the Czech Republic for product training before taking delivery of their new fixtures.

KITCHENER, Ontario – Christie MicroTiles are attracting customers into the retail stores of Canadian media giant Shaw Communications, where the digital display technology educates customers about the Shaw universe that includes cable television, Internet and phone service. Rather than have all 24 MicroTiles depicting one piece of content simultaneously, a waterfall effect was designed with the tiles slightly staggered with gaps along the X Y and Z access.

KUWAIT – Kuwait’s 50th Constitution Day celebration featured more than 235 watts of laser power, plus lighting, audio, effects and 77,282 fireworks in a single hour.  Two weeks of setup, plus three tons of gear, culminated in the breathtaking gala witnessed by more than a million people. London’s ER Productions, the event’s laser and effects specialists, used the landmark Kuwait towers as the show’s centerpiece, using both wireless and fiber optic data control.
