Swedish House Mafia Uses Clay Paky for DVD Shoot

MILTON KEYNES, UK – For Swedish House Mafia’s DVD shoot, LD Ian Tomlinson specified Clay Paky Sharpys to add more effects to the show at the National Bowl at Milton Keynes. Tomlinson followed a ‘less is more’ approach, filling the gaps for the camera shots and lighting the stage and audience in a visual onslaught. HSL supplied 60 Clay Paky Sharpys, which were attached to the bottom of the video pods.

DALLAS – Philips Entertainment is now shipping the Showline SL BAR 640 and SL BAR 660, 4-ft and 6-ft RGBW linear wash luminaires capable of being used as a wash or as a direct-view linear bar. The fixtures also feature the Harmonize Color Calibration System, which assures the luminaires will match from fixture to fixture and pixel to pixel. The SL BAR 660 produces 20,000 lumens of output and the SL BAR 640 produces more than 13,000 lumens of output. Both feature a 60-degree beam angle, built-in effects and chases, an auto-orienting LCD menu, multiple dimming curves and color modes, among other features.

USITT Announces 2013 Architecture Award Recipients

NEW YORK – USITT, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, will recognize five new performance spaces with its 2013 Architecture Merit Awards. Winners include two university performing arts centers, a national parks visitor center, a British opera space and an arts complex in Norway. Timothy Hartung also will be honored with the USITT Distinguished Achievement in Architecture award. USITT will present the honors at its 2013 Annual Conference & Stage Expo in Milwaukee March 20-23, 2013.

VANCOUVER – World Vision raises funds for its African relief programs each year by staging a tour across Canada.  This year’s headliner was Alan Tam, who performed shows beneath a Martin rig of MAC 101 and MAC 700 series moving heads. Vancouver-based Canton Productions called upon Jason McKinnon from Electric Aura Projects (EAP) to design the tour lighting.

Lighting PlugFest Set for Dec. 5 at IESNYC Event

NEW YORK –  The Illuminating Engineering Society of New York City (IESNYC) had to postpone their annual Control This! event, originally set for early November, due to superstorm Sandy. The daylong event expo and seminar series, which includes a “PlugFest” sponsored by Soraa, is now set to take place Dec. 5 at the original location, the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York. The PlugFest is geared to test the interoperability between products from different manufacturers, and to showcase new lighting control and energy management systems.

Empire State Building LED Lighting Synchs with Alicia Keys Radio Broadcasts

NEW YORK — Although the Empire State Building has been equipped with a Philips Color Kinetics LED color-changing system including customized Reach, Graze, Cove and Blast Powercore fixtures, the LED fixtures have so far been used mainly to mimic the static seasonal and charity-related hues bathing the upper reaches of the 1,454-foot office building for years. But on Nov. 26, that changed. At 9pm, a color-changing light show designed by LD Marc Brickman and driven by Hippotizer media servers controlled by a grandMA2 console was synched to Clear Channel broadcasts of music by Alicia Keys.
