ETCP Exams Offered at USITT 2013

NEW YORK – The ETCP (Entertainment Technician Certification Program) Examinations will be given at USITT 2013 in Milwaukee. All three ETCP examinations will be given in one session the morning of March 22, 2013. Candidates who wish to take more than one exam should contact ETCP. Members and employees of members of USITT receive a $100 discount on examination fees. Interested applicants must submit their application, along with supporting materials and fee, to the ETCP office no later than March 1, 2013.

In Memoriam: Frank Luppino Jr., 90

GLENVIEW, IL — Frank Luppino Jr., founder of Marketing Insights, head of marketing for Seeburg, a music and vending equipment manufacturer, and an industry journalist who covered NAMM for Billboard Magazine in the 1940s before serving as Billboard’s associate publisher, died Nov. 10, 2012 at age 90.

Sharpys, grandMA2s Perform at Made in America Festival

LOS ANGELES – Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures and numerous grandMA2 lighting consoles were on hand throughout Budweiser’s Made in America Festival, which entertained crowds on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Labor Day Weekend.  Jay-Z and Pearl Jam headlined main stage concerts on Saturday and Sunday. Nick Whitehouse was the lighting designer for the main stage, while John Duncan, Jr. of Pinpoint Lighting was the lighting designer and equipment supplier for the B stage and electronic dance music pad.

DTS Lighting Fixtures Light ARK Festival in Athens

ATHENS – The ARK Festival took place Sept. 10-11, hosting 14 renowned and emerging artists on two distinct stages, the ‘Ark’ and the ‘Angel.’ D.T.S lighting products in the rig included 16 JACK compact moving heads on the Ark stage, suspended from a curved truss encircling the stage, with 8 DELTA 10R LED moving head wall washers hung to a truss set above the stage. Lighting Art team with LD George Tellos designed the festival stages. Electron handled the lighting installation.

Stage Lighting Super Saturday Set for 2013

NEW YORK – The eighth-annual Stage Lighting Super Saturday all-day seminar will take place Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. The annual seminar is designed for everyone involved in stage, architectural or entertainment lighting. In addition to presentations, about 20 manufacturers and technical specialists will demonstrate equipment.

ARA Donates to Hurricane Relief, Offers Disaster Recovery Guide

MOLINE, IL — The American Rental Association voted to donate $6,000 ($3,000 each) to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. A signature piece of the ARA Foundation’s disaster relief and recovery efforts has been the creation of the Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Guide. It is offered as a free download from the ARA website to those in the equipment rental industry and provides practical information, including specific checklists, that can help rental operators prepare and plan for what to do in the event of a disaster.

‘Ice Age Live’ is Painted with Light

LONDON – Luc Peumans from Genk, Belgium-based creative visual design practice, Painting With Light, has designed lighting for the new “Ice Age Live” show, a stage adaptation of the 20th Century Fox ‘Ice Age’ animation movies. The show is scheduled to tour internationally for the next five years and has just premiered in the UK, directed by Guy Caron. It all had to fit into one truck, so each fixture spec’d had to be multi-purpose. All lighting equipment is supplied by Belgian rental company Phlippo Showlight.

Vari-Lite Fixtures Tour with Jennifer Lopez

LONDON – LD Sean Burke has created an energetic and dramatic design for Jennifer Lopez’s world tour using VL3500 Wash FX and VL3000 Spot luminaires from Upstaging. The fixtures needed to compete with a backdrop of LED video screens. Lighting also needed to illuminate a stage measuring 62’ wide x 48’ deep, filled with the band and dancers.

LOSNING, Denmark – The recently formed Matrix Group is now the exclusive Danish distributor of PR Lighting’s automated discharge and LED lighting portfolio.
