LD Jibson Chooses Vista L5 for Incubus Tour

CHICAGO – Chicago-based LD Robb Jibson chose a Jands Vista L5 console from Windy City Lighting to control lighting and media for Incubus, co-headliners on the North American “2012 Honda Civic Tour” with Linkin Park. Following such positive experiences using the Vista control platform, Jibson decided to invest in his own Jands Vista S3 console, which he uses as a tracking backup.

Spyder Streamlines HITT Contracting’s 75th Anniversary

FALLS CHURCH, VA – Bartkresa design of Los Angeles used Vista System’s Spyder to showcase video content during the the 75th anniversary celebration for HITT Contracting in Falls Church, VA. Bart Kresa used a Spyder to switch the six outputs from a pair of video servers to three sets of triple stacked projectors. Says Kresa,  “We were still editing the materials while the show was running. So as we had one system online playing back the content, we were editing on the other system and then going online with system B and editing on system A.”

Martin Moonlights in Russian Club

YEKATERINBURG, Russia – Moon nightclub in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg upgraded its lighting package of Martin fixtures with MAC 350 Entour and MAC Aura LED fixtures. The fixtures enhance the themed parties and performances in what is the city’s only male striptease venue. Twelve years ago Moon installed Martin products, and decided to replace the older technology with the newer LED sources for service and energy savings.

Australia’s NightFest Blooms with Martin

CANBERRA, Australia – Floriade, Australia’s biggest celebration of spring, is held every year for 30 days during September and October. It showcases one million flowers in bloom, set in Canberra’s Commonwealth Park and attracting more than 400,000 visitors. For this year’s NightFest, Mandylights designed and created the lighting ambience, making extensive use of the Martin MAC 301 Wash LED moving head. PRG supplied the fixtures.

Clay Paky, Ambersphere Support Stone Roses Resurrection

LONDON – The Stone Roses reunited this summer, choosing to work with LD Paul Normandale of Lite Alternative to design their tour. Among other fixtures sharing the stage were Clay Paky Sharpys, with control on a grandMA2 full-size, programmed by Glen Johnson. It was the first time that Normandale had used the Sharpy, and he chose it specifically because he wanted a “bright, tight, narrow vertical beam.”

Light India 2012 Draws Visitors to ‘Green’ Lighting Exhibition

NEW DELHI – The Light India 2012 exhibition Oct. 5-8 hosted 187 exhibitors from China, Germany, India, Italy and the US. The show was spread across six halls covering an area of 13,800 sq m (149,000 sq ft), and attracted 16,486 visitors, exceeding exhibitors’ expectations. The event was the first joint exhibition between the Electric Lamps & Components Manufacturers Association of India (ELCOMA) and Messe Frankfurt, and focused on green energy and energy efficient lighting technology.

NEW YORK — A Red Cross fundraising benefit concert, Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together, featuring New Jersey’s Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, Staten Island native Christina Aguilera and Long Island native Billy Joel, among others, aired Nov. 2 at 8 pm (EST) on NBC-affiliated stations, cable networks and websites. The telethon/webathon event raised close to $23 million in a four-hour span.

NORTH CREEK, NY – Creative Stage Lighting Co. took delivery of Clay Paky’s Alpha Spot QWO 800 ST fixtures for its inventory than they deployed eight of them for jam band moe.’s continuing U.S. tour.  LD Jason Huffer, LD for moe., first saw the fixtures in an online video and thought they would work well for the tour. “It’s not a huge production. They’re on the upstage truss and meet my needs for something lightweight, not too large yet with a great feature set.”

WorldStage Helps Turn High Line into Real Life ‘Project Runway’

NEW YORK – Strollers on the Chelsea Market passage of the High Line (a linear park built on a former elevated NY Central Railroad) got to strut their stuff, pose and collect nods of approval as they walked a virtual runway to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lifetime’s “Project Runway.”  WorldStage facilitated the installation of a 20-ft long interactive videowall, which used human tracking technology to mix the realtime virtual emotions of show host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia as they reacted to the fashion sense of passersby seeking their moment on the runway.

The event was a benefit and sonic tribute of sorts to Robert Moog, electronic visionary of the Moog synthesizer. Headliners included Primus 3D, Santigold, Thomas Dolby, Orbital and others.
