ARA Donates to Hurricane Relief, Offers Disaster Recovery Guide

MOLINE, IL — The American Rental Association voted to donate $6,000 ($3,000 each) to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. A signature piece of the ARA Foundation’s disaster relief and recovery efforts has been the creation of the Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Guide. It is offered as a free download from the ARA website to those in the equipment rental industry and provides practical information, including specific checklists, that can help rental operators prepare and plan for what to do in the event of a disaster.

‘Ice Age Live’ is Painted with Light

LONDON – Luc Peumans from Genk, Belgium-based creative visual design practice, Painting With Light, has designed lighting for the new “Ice Age Live” show, a stage adaptation of the 20th Century Fox ‘Ice Age’ animation movies. The show is scheduled to tour internationally for the next five years and has just premiered in the UK, directed by Guy Caron. It all had to fit into one truck, so each fixture spec’d had to be multi-purpose. All lighting equipment is supplied by Belgian rental company Phlippo Showlight.

Vari-Lite Fixtures Tour with Jennifer Lopez

LONDON – LD Sean Burke has created an energetic and dramatic design for Jennifer Lopez’s world tour using VL3500 Wash FX and VL3000 Spot luminaires from Upstaging. The fixtures needed to compete with a backdrop of LED video screens. Lighting also needed to illuminate a stage measuring 62’ wide x 48’ deep, filled with the band and dancers.

DALLAS -Train’s LD Brock Hogan was tasked with creating one of the band’s largest rigs to date for their California 37 tour, which just finished. He chose VL3500 Wash FX, VLX Wash, VLX3 Wash, and VL3000 Spot luminaires from LMG Touring. It was his fifth tour with the band, and one of his concerns was to make sure the lighting did not lose out to the ambient light from the video elements. The VLX3 Wash helped him cut through, even with the LED video wall in the background, he said.

GoVision Provides Screens for CNN’s Election Night

CHICAGO – CNN supplemented its wall-to-wall election night coverage by hosting viewing events in Chicago and Boston, the respective home bases of President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney. The network hired Texas-based GoVision, a supplier of customized modular LED walls and turnkey mobile LED units, to provide and install its giant screens at both free public viewing events.
