ETC 120V Source Four Dimmer

MIDDLETON, WI – ETC is expanding its dimming and power control line with the introduction of the Source Four Dimmer, which can be attached to any conventional Source Four to provide per-fixture distributed dimming in 120V markets. The Source Four Dimmer uses ETC’s new ES (Electronic Silent) technology for fan-free, noiseless operation for acoustically sensitive venues. ETC also introduces the ES750 Dimmer, which has the same functionality as the Source Four Dimmer, but it can work with any type of fixture. The ES750 can be a remote dimmer for any application and comes equipped with a power input and output to a choice of connectors.

TORONTO – Cast Software has recently released WYSIWYG R29, the new version of CAST Software’s industry standard pre-visualization suite. Among the new features are the Six Degrees of Freedom Camera and Shaded View Selection. The Six Degrees feature means users may position the camera in any way they choose, mirroring the complete freedom of movement that they would have with a physical camera in a live situation. Shaded View Selection speeds up the process of selecting fixtures and changing characteristics while in design mode.

Christie Adds Bite to Discovery Channel’s Shark Week

LOS ANGELES – Sharks were seen recently prowling the pool of the Beverly Hilton hotel, but luckily for guests, it was just a projection from a Christie YK200 dual-arm yoke, with a Christie projector mounted on it. Another six Christie projectors displayed similar shark-related images on a large wall nearby. It was all part of the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week 25th anniversary celebration.

CPL Supplies Boomtown Fair Lion’s Den Stage

WEST MIDLANDS, UK – Technical solutions provider Central Presentations Ltd (CPL) supplied a lighting and camera/visuals/projection package for the 2012 Boomtown Fair’s Lion’s Den Stage. The event was staged at Matterley Bowl near Winchester, a location kept secret until the last possible minute as part of the boutique style festival’s aura of anticipation and surprise. Rob Barnaville designed the lighting, in collaboration with CPL. The design aimed to maximize all the available stage space and the variable headroom, and provide eye-catching, operated ‘on-the-fly’ lighting.

BELGRADE, Serbia – Serbian rental company Studio Berar purchased 50 new Robe ROBIN 100 LEDBeams initially to meet a spec by LD Andy Hurst for The Prodigy, and their headline performance at the recent Warriors Dance Festival. The event was staged at the Kalemegdan Fortress in Belgrade, a cultural location dating back to the first century AD when it served as a Roman military camp.

KwaZulu Natal, South Africa – Robe moving lights were chosen for the 2012 Splashy Fen Music Festival, staged in the foothills of the southern Drakensberg mountains in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Returning designer for the second year was Llewellyn Pieters from Durban-based event technical support company, Black Coffee. The Robes stood up to an exceptionally dusty environment, and handled the general humidity and the salty sea air well, says Pieters.

Sharpy Rides in Rig with ‘Carnival of Madness’

LOS ANGELES – Clay Paky Sharpy fixtures were specified on the “Carnival of Madness” tour, the annual rock extravaganza that played major US cities this summer.  Evanescence headlined dates across the country along with Chevelle, Halestorm, New Medicine and CAVO. Evanescence’s LD Dan Hardiman selected 26 Sharpy fixtures for the exclusive use of the band.  The core of the Evanescence rig was used for all of the musical acts.

Renegade Makes a Surreal Entrance at 100% Design

LONDON – Renegade’s Nick Gray created a 50-meter video sculpture for the entrance of the 2012 100% Design exhibition at Earls Court. The work, which resembled an intricate DNA wire-frame structure in architecture and appearance, was fed with video content from a media server, and drew attendees into a completely immersive experience. “I wanted to create a real sense of physical anticipation as people traversed the tunnel, which was completely black apart from the video streams flowing and tumbling around it. The idea was that people undertook a journey as they passed down the tunnel, experiencing emotion, excitement and proper physical sensations,” Gray says.
