‘Ice Age Live’ is Painted with Light

LONDON – Luc Peumans from Genk, Belgium-based creative visual design practice, Painting With Light, has designed lighting for the new “Ice Age Live” show, a stage adaptation of the 20th Century Fox ‘Ice Age’ animation movies. The show is scheduled to tour internationally for the next five years and has just premiered in the UK, directed by Guy Caron. It all had to fit into one truck, so each fixture spec’d had to be multi-purpose. All lighting equipment is supplied by Belgian rental company Phlippo Showlight.

Vari-Lite Fixtures Tour with Jennifer Lopez

LONDON – LD Sean Burke has created an energetic and dramatic design for Jennifer Lopez’s world tour using VL3500 Wash FX and VL3000 Spot luminaires from Upstaging. The fixtures needed to compete with a backdrop of LED video screens. Lighting also needed to illuminate a stage measuring 62’ wide x 48’ deep, filled with the band and dancers.

PR Lighting Appoints Matrix as Danish Distributors

LOSNING, Denmark – The recently formed Matrix Group is now the exclusive Danish distributor of PR Lighting’s automated discharge and LED lighting portfolio. Matrix Group has a base in pro audio and has expanded this year into lighting distribution and sales, with PR Lighting becoming its latest acquisition. This will be PR Lighting’s introduction to the Danish market and Matrix CEO Kenneth Bremer anticipates a high demand, both from touring/rental companies as well as mid-range market installation contractors and TV production crews.

Robe Does It Gangnam Style for Psy Concerts

SEOUL, Korea – Chart topping rapper Psy – Korea’s originator of the current “Gangnam Style” phenomena – performed two special concerts recently, both of lit with Robe moving lights in a design by Myeong Soo Kim.  With more than 500 million views on YouTube alone, the lighting design had to create the right vibe and live up to expectations. Train Travels with Vari-Lites and LMG

DALLAS -Train’s LD Brock Hogan was tasked with creating one of the band’s largest rigs to date for their California 37 tour, which just finished. He chose VL3500 Wash FX, VLX Wash, VLX3 Wash, and VL3000 Spot luminaires from LMG Touring. It was his fifth tour with the band, and one of his concerns was to make sure the lighting did not lose out to the ambient light from the video elements. The VLX3 Wash helped him cut through, even with the LED video wall in the background, he said.

CHICAGO – CNN supplemented its wall-to-wall election night coverage by hosting viewing events in Chicago and Boston, the respective home bases of President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney. The network hired Texas-based GoVision, a supplier of customized modular LED walls and turnkey mobile LED units, to provide and install its giant screens at both free public viewing events.
