WYSIWYG Helps Pre-Viz Golden Gate Birthday

TORONTO – When San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge recently celebrated its 75th birthday, the lighting and pyro display came as a complete surprise to thousands of spectators. Lightswitch’s Norm Schwab and Prelite’s Tom Thompson used the WYSIWYG previsualization suite from CAST Software to perfect the design in the studio before going live. Besides the surprise factor, the design team says using pre-viz also saved on labor, equipment wear and tear, lamp life issues and more.

CSE Makes Steps with Performing Arts School

HARLOW, Essex, UK – Performing arts school Makin’ Steps’ annual shows have grown into larger spectacles since 1998, each year getting more creatively and technically ambitious. This year they asked London-based Colour Sound Experiment (CSE) for help with lighting, trussing, rigging, power distribution and crew. The four days of sold-out shows covered six decades of popular music since the Queen’s coronation in 1952.

Robe Makes Grand EXIT in Serbia

SGM Expands UK Distribution

LONDON – SGM Lighting has expanded its distribution arrangements in the UK, appointing A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd (AC-ET) to work in parallel with existing distributor, LED Projects. The new arrangement takes effect Aug. 1, and AC-ET confirms it will showcase the latest SGM range at this year’s PLASA 2012 exhibition in September.

LONDON – France TV Sport is covering the Olympic Games with a temporary TV studio on the Thames, outfitted with ETC’s Source Four LED profile spotlight providing the majority of the light. The station has rented 48 ETC Source Four LED Lustr+ Zoom 25-50-degree luminaires to help with their energy usage. The technical directors also like the fixture’s color mixing system, which allows them to achieve the natural skin tones needed for TV broadcasting.

Behind the Scenes Raffle at PLASA Focus: Nashville

NEW YORK — Behind the Scenes participated at the recent PLASA Focus: Nashville event to raise both funds and awareness about the charity. The fundraising was made by possible by Mainstage Theatrical Supply, Inc.’s donation of an ETC Source Four Lustr+ LED Light Engine as a raffle prize. The raffle winner was Steve Gilbard from coolux. Behind the Scenes raised just over $1,000 in the fund-raiser – enough to help someone in the industry in financial need.

Robert Juliat got together with Morpheus Lights, of Las Vegas, the production company for the tour, and created a hybrid that married the RJ heads with a Morpheus electronic power supply – the RJE Electronic Ballast – and produced one-piece truss spots that have been a great success.
