IATSE Local One Certifies 36 ETCP Theatre Riggers

NEW YORK – The Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) has awarded 36 IATSE Local One members with its Rigger – Theatre Certification. In related news, to keep the ETCP examinations current, the ETCP volunteers appointed as “subject matter experts” (SME’s) have written new questions for the Theatre Rigging examination. ETCP is set to launch these questions Sept. 1, 2012.  The test administration fee for groups of 10 or more will be waived for the month of September.

Sapsis Rigging Helps Streb Fly Over London

LONDON – Londoners were surprised July 15 with “One Extraordinary Day,” an event featuring aerial performances over various sites around the city. Sapsis Rigging played a role by supplying design consultation and rigging for choreographer Elizabeth Streb and her “Action Hero” troupe at the Millennium Bridge, City Hall, Trafalgar and Paternoster Squares, the National Theatre and the London Eye.

XL Video Supplies International Music Summit

IBIZA – XL Video supplied LED screens, cameras/PPU, mapping and projection for the recent International Music Summit in Ibiza. For the Grand Finale show, XL Video provided crowd-pleasing projections on to the Cathedral above Dalt Vila. Special permissions were required to turn off the architectural lighting on the buildings and a set of custom masks were applied to ensure the projections didn’t spread to adjacent houses.

VL880 Spot Inspires at Hong Kong Ballet

HONG KONG – For its season finale, the Hong Kong Ballet opened Turandot, a neo-classical ballet inspired by Puccini’s opera at the Grand Theatre Hong Kong Cultural Centre. LD Mak Kwok-Fai used more than 40 Philips Vari-Lite automated luminaires for the show including the new VL880 Spot luminaire. He was the first designer in the region to use the new fixture.

Waves of Chauvet Light at Atlanta Airport

ATLANTA—The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s new international terminal, the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, features an art installation entitled “Light Waves: Atlanta.” The piece features 32 CHAUVET Intimidator Scan LED 300 scanners, 68 horizontal panes of colored glass—stacked in 17 sections with four panes in each section—along a 160-ft. hallway. As the light from the recessed fixtures in the ceiling passes over the glass, it reflects and refracts creating a continuously changing pattern of color on the wall.
