Crowd in Buffalo Grows Unruly after Weather Cancellation

BUFFALO, NY — Folding chairs were damaged and thrown on the stage, along with bottles and cans, after headliner Eric Church’s performance was cancelled June 1 at Coca-Cola Field due to weather concerns. There were no reports of serious injuries. Organizers of the WYRK Taste of Country concert had delayed Church’s appearance on the stage, then cancelled the event amid concerns that the high winds might destabilize the stage structure.

Industry Veterans Form Zeehi, New Technology Solutions Company

BOULDER, CO — Industry veteran Danny Abelson announced the formation of Zeehi LLC, a new company dedicated to developing solutions to improve the workflow of entertainment production professionals. Zeehi’s management includes other industry veterans with experience in audio and lighting product design, production management and fixed installations. Zeehi’s first entertainment technology solution, CueCast, will debut this summer.

IATSE Restructures Internal Divisions, Adds Division of Education and Training

NEW YORK — IATSE, the stagehands union, has created two new divisions and re-organized another. Along with its new Division of Education and Training, IATSE added a Broadcast Division. IATSE has also moved its Organizing Division into its Stagecraft Division—all of its other divisions had their own organization division, so this move eliminates some redundancies, but ensures each arm of IATSE has a team dedicated to organizing.

Osram Ostar Projection Cube LED

An integrated miniature projector that can display images on a much larger surface than existing displays is the next giant leap for smart phones and cameras. This is known as embedded projection and uses LEDs as the light source. The greatest challenge so far for lighting technology has been the limited efficiency of the green light emitting diodes. This is because high brightness is essential if the projected image will be seen with ambient light.  LEDs that produce green light with acceptable luminance were not available.  The new Osram Ostar Projection Cube has now filled this gap.

MAC Aura Shows Versatility on Nierka

LONDON – Nierka, a multidisciplinary performance piece by visual designer Tupac Martir, used Martin Professional’s compact MAC Aura and MAC 101 LED wash lights. Describing a special scene, Martir says, “There is a moment of (using) all LED where the dancers, band and orchestra carry their own light, which illuminates their movement. The pixels in the Aura allowed this beautiful moment…that combined perfectly with the space and movement.”
