Stage Electrics Ring in New Year with Cooper Controls

LONDON – Stage Electrics again supplied lighting to The Mayor of London’s New Year 2012 celebrations, produced by creative events experts Jack Morton Worldwide.  As in previous years, this show featured VARI-LITE VL3500 Wash FX fixtures in each of the capsules on the London Eye, together with Syncrolite and Clay Paky Alpha Beam fixtures. But this year, Stage Electrics proposed using Zero Wire CRMX from Cooper Controls to enable wirless control of each of the 32 pods fitted to the London Eye. It was the solution LD Durham Marenghi needed.

Forcast in Expansion with Action Monaco Acquisition

Forcast, a South of France-based broadcast, video and AV rental services company, has acquired Action Monaco from the Avesco Group. With the merger, Forcast becomes one of the largest AV rental/broadcast and video facilities service operation in France outside of Paris. With Action’s main office in Monaco and Forcast’s three facilities along the Cote D’Azur, all easily accessible to main intercontinental highways, the companies can combine both equipment and resources to cost-effectively service projects from Barcelona to Milan as well as farther afield in Europe.

Philips Selecon Emits High Light, Low Heat for Ice Festival

ZWOLLE, Netherlands – The first Ice Sculpture Festival in Zwolle, Holland features more than 40 ice sculptors who created sea animals, ocean monsters and other characters in ice for the nautical themed event. Naturally, lighting needed to be low heat-emitting, and the Philips fixtures fit the bill. LD Jasper Schimmel used a number of Philips Selecton Pacific and PL3 LED Luminaires from Rolight to create a dramatic lightscape. The festival runs to Jan. 29.

WILLIAMSPORT, MD – Special effects foreman Tom Kittle, of Ocala, FL, turns to Look Solutions for fog effects in film and TV projects. From Mel Gibson’s film ‘The Patriot,’ to the recent series “The Vampire Diaries,” Kittle says Vipers and TINY foggers have been a part of every show he’s been working on, as he can place them easily anywhere he needs to in the set.

BERGAMO, Italy – Clay Paky fixtures lit up the ice for a roster of figure skating champions in “Caesars Tribute II: A Salute to the Ladies of the Ice,” taped in Atlantic City, NJ. Production and lighting designer Christien Method of design one used Sharpys and Alpha Spot HPE 1500s to glam up the ice, controlled with two full-size grandMA 2 desks networked together. The show aired Jan. 1 on NBC TV.

Robe Provides ‘Nothing But The Best’ for David Guetta

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Robe lighting played an integral role in dance guru David Guetta’s worldwide touring spec, and did so again for Guetta’s “Nothing But the Best” live showcase in Budapest. LD Jonathan “Leggy” Armstrong spec’d the gear, run by UK-touring lighting director Alex “Junior” Cero. The lighting rig featured 29 Robe LEDWash 600s, 18 ColorSpot 1200E ATs and 12 ColorWash 250E ATs at its core, with a grandMA console, all supplied by Colossal.
