Da-Lite Audio Perforated HD Progressive 1.1 Screen Surface

Da-Lite’s expanded line of HD Progressive screen surfaces includes HD Progressive 1.1 Perf material, an acoustically-transparent front projection fabric that allows speakers to be placed directly behind the screen. The new screen material is available on tensioned electric and fixed frame screens. It’s a washable surface with a gain of 1.1 and a viewing half angle of 85 degrees, with virtually no sound loss for HD applications.

Production Exchange Partners with Database Works, Elation Professional

LOS ANGELES — Database Works, developers of RentalWorks rental software, will include a new API interface with Production Exchange, the web-based exchange for production rentals and used gear sales. Elation Professional also recently entered into an agreement with Production Exchange to establish a sub-portal on the company’s interactive website that will allow customers to locate and rent Elation lighting and video products online.

“Book of Mormon,” “War Horse” Garner Tony Lighting Design Honors

NEW YORK — The American Theatre Wing announced the winners for the 2011 Tony Awards, which was televised live on CBS June 12. The winner for Best Lighting Design of a Play was Paule Constable for War Horse; nominees included David Lander for Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo; Kenneth Posner for The Merchant of Venice; and Mimi Jordan Sherin for Jerusalem. For Best Lighting Design of a Musical, the winner was Brian MacDevitt for The Book of Mormon. Nominees included Ken Billington for The Scottsboro Boys; Howell Binkley for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying; and Peter Kaczorowski for Anything Goes.

WUPPERTAL, Germany — Riedel Communications GmbH & Co KG named Jörg Heise, 47, as its new chief operations officer (COO). MIAMI GARDENS, FL — The 6th annual Jazz in the Gardens festival drew more than 45,000 to Sun Life Stadium to hear Lauren Hill, Branford Marsalis, Gladys Knight and Al Jarreau and others. Abbas Ritscher, lighting designer for The Design Oasis Productions, used more than 40 Chauvet fixtures to light the 84-foot-wide stage.
