Foundation for Stage Managers Announces Spring Fundraising Campaign

The Foundation for Stage Managers (FSM), formerly known as the Stage Managers’ Association Foundation, announces its Spring 2025 Fundraising Campaign. The campaign has a Valentine’s theme: Give your Stage Managers a little love. Starting Valentine’s Day, February 14, and running through March 14, FSM is seeking donations representing a love of Stage Managers, to fund grants to be awarded by the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public nonprofit established in 2022.

The Joyce Theater Uses Blackmagic Design for Archival Workflow

Blackmagic Design announced that The Joyce Theater, a 472 seat dance and performance venue in the heart of Manhattan, relies on Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 and numerous Blackmagic Design converters to create archival footage of performances. The footage is used by dance companies for daily notes, as a record of a particular performance, or for teaching purposes for new dancers or stage managers.

Lighting Designer Andy Webb specified Robe moving lights to be at the heart of his lighting designs for two high-profile pantomime shows in the United Kingdom, ‘The Further Adventures of Peter Pan’ staged at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury and ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Festival Theatre in Malvern – two of 11 pantos presented this season by UK Productions.

Lighting the Morality Play ‘Jedermann’ in Salzburg with Robe

Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s Medieval morality play ‘Jedermann’ has become a classic centerpiece of the world-renowned Salzburg Festival, staged most years in the city’s Cathedral Square. 2024 saw the staging of a new, contemporary version created by Canadian Director Robert Carsen, a master of stagecraft and innovative thinking. Lighting was designed by Carsen and Giuseppe di Iorio, with the latter specifying Robe iFORTE LTXs.

Eleventh Backstage Legends and Masters Award Going to Michael Wyatt

Purchase College, State University of New York’s Broadway Technical Theatre History Project will present the Eleventh “Backstage Legends and Masters Award” to Michael Wyatt on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 7 p.m. at The Performing Arts Center, Recital Hall Theatre. Wyatt started his Broadway career in 1978 and has now spent four and a half decades helping to shape and support a host of Broadway productions.

The Stage Managers’ Association Foundation Announces Its New Name

The Board of Directors of the Stage Managers’ Association Foundation (SMAF) voted, at its November 2024, meeting, to change its name. It is now DBA Foundation for Stage Managers (FSM). The mission of FSM is to support stage managers by providing funds for continuing career education and development, and for public events that enhance stage management skills.
