Recently, the Society of Properties Artisan Managers (S*P*A*M) held another of its informative online S*P*A*Minars, this one called Proper Prop Presenting that covered Portfolio Reviews and Tips. They brought together three prop professionals to review two early career prop portfolios and gave suggestions and guidance to the artisans. USITT Announces its 2022 Young Designers, Managers, & Technicians Award Winners

The United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) has announce the winners of the 2022 Young Designers, Managers, & Technicians Awards. The YDMT Awards bring recognition and support to young designers, managers, and technicians at the beginning of their careers. These awards are made possible by generous gifts to USITT from its sponsors. The YDMT Award winners will be honored at USITT22 in Baltimore, March 2-5.

ETC CUE Conference Scheduled for February 17, 2022

Over 1,200 people representing more than 60 countries around the world have already registered for ETC’s 2022 CUE conference. This 24-hour event is slotted for February 17 and starts in Asia at 11:00 a.m. HKT with a keynote address from ETC’s Vice President of Marketing, David Lincecum. ETC staff and other industry experts follow with a series of sessions over the course of the day in multiple time zones and multiple languages. Showlight to Return in May 2023 Théâtre Municipal, Fontainebleau, France

Showlight announces that plans are underway to reinstate Showlight 2023 which, after a two-year postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now scheduled to take place between May 20-23, 2023. Video Interview | LD Jeff Croiter on Lighting Freestyle Love Supreme for Broadway Run & US Tour with 4Wall

 

After almost a year and a half of no Broadway shows, the doors finally opened in October 2021. The reopening of the improvisational hip-hop comedy musical group Freestyle Love Supreme, started by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Veneziale in 2004, presented an opportunity for Tony-Award-winning Lighting Designer Jeff Croiter to upgrade his rig with gear from 4Wall Entertainment. In Memoriam: Lina (Jean) Burch, Technical Director and Project Manager

Stage Directions has learned that Technical Director, Lina (Jean) Burch, 47, passed away quietly in her home in Kenosha, WI on December 1, 2021 at the age of 47. She had been working as the Technical Director at Milliken University since August 2020. Burch wrote for her blog Technical Direction Tidbits since 2007 and was very involved with the USITT Midwest Regional Section where she currently served as the Vice Chair of Programming on the Board of Directors and had been a Director at Large. Prior to her position at Milliken, she had freelanced as a project manager and technical director in the Chicago area and worked for a number of years at Chicago Scenic Studios as a project manager. Burch had an MFA in Technical Design and Production from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. We at PLSN and Stage Directions send our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues in the industry.
