Roundabout Theatre Company Hosting Virtual Convention for Off-Stage Jobs Dec. 7-9

New York, NY—The Roundabout Theatre Company, with support from The National Endowment for the Arts will host Opening Stage Doors, the first-of-its-kind virtual convening to share tools and innovations in job training, mentorship, and job placement, with the goal of helping remove traditional barriers to off-stage performing arts jobs. The three-day convening will be held virtually December 7-9, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET each day.

In Memoriam | John H. Kliegl II

John H. Kliegl II, the grandson and grandnephew of John and Anton Kliegl, the inventors of the arc light-based Klieglight for film production, died on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Born on September 9, 1935, Kliegl was 86 years old. Kliegl was the third generation to head the industry leading Kliegl Bros. Universal Stage Lighting Co., following the death of his father, Herbert A. Kliegl in 1968. Event Safety Summit Moves to March 2022

Over the last several weeks, a number of ESA members have expressed reservations about attending the 2021 Event Safety Summit in person. Many wish to remain available for potential gigs, have concerns about unvaccinated family members, or have had travel restricted by their employer. SMA to Bestow Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement during Virtual Event Oct. 25

On Monday October 25th, 2021, the Stage Managers’ Association (SMA) will virtually present its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management, live from NYC and Las Vegas. The 2021 honorees are distinguished theatrical stage managers Ruth E. Kramer and Lynda A. Lavin, television stage manager Arthur Lewis, and in-memoriam legendary Broadway stage manager Charles Allen Blackwell. Disney Live Entertainment Provides Funds for Innovative New Program

Liverpool, NY — USITT Executive Director David Grindle announced a new pilot initiative to connect professional producing organizations with rising young BIPOC designers. The inaugural USITT BIPOC Designer Fellowship connected OPERA San Antonio (OSA) with Toni Sterling, who joined the production team of Don Giovanni as the Assistant Lighting Designer.
