PLSN Staff • Projection Connection News • July 6, 2020

LOS ANGELES – Hako, BARTKRESA studio’s newest 360-degree projection-mapped sculpture, is a pop-up experience that you can build. BARTKRESA studio has created a sculpture that artists around the world can build and projection map.

More details from BARTKRESA (

Mr. Kresa envisioned a manipulated cube as the simple foundation for a bright and lively character. The name, Hako, comes from a Japanese word for a box that contains precious items. Light and design reveal a fun and imaginative spirit within this Hako.

Hako is a projection design sculpture and workshop that is celebrating and connecting the diverse global arts community. BARTKRESA studio invites artists with an interest in projection mapping to apply to participate in a series of remote workshops to design their own Hako.

Each participant will receive plans for building his or her own Hako; access to the live workshops with Mr. Kresa; and a platform for sharing their Hako with the world. The program will culminate in the premiere of a global exhibition, shared virtually on the Hako website and social media.

This is the first time that BARTKRESA studio is offering a free program like this, as access to Mr. Kresa’s workshops are usually limited to small, in-person groups. Up to 100 artists will be accepted, and prior projection mapping experience is not required.

Applications open on July 6, and close on July 24, 2020 (Pacific Time). Selected artists will be notified by July 28 (Pacific Time). Workshop access and Hako plans are exclusive to selected artists. Apply to bring Hako home with you on
